Bobbi Sylvia Evelyn Stein
August 22, 1945 – June 13, 2026
Bobbi Sylvia Evelyn Stein passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Plano, Texas, surrounded by family, friends, and an abundance of love. She was 80 years young.
If Bobbi were writing this herself, she would tell everyone to spend less time being sad and more time gathering together. A table full of family, friends, laughter, and food was her happy place.
Born in Denver, Colorado, Bobbi lost her father young and was raised by her mother, Tillie, whose strength and independence as a single parent shaped her for life. Even as a child she marched to her own drum, deciding “Sylvia” was too formal and choosing “Bobbi” because it simply fit better. Anyone who knew her would agree she got that one exactly right.
Creativity ran through everything she did. As a girl, she loved putting on performances, singing and dancing to Sisters from White Christmas. She began as a hairdresser, found her passion in interior design, and had a gift for making any space feel comfortable, welcome, and like home. That gift extended into every relationship she built.
Relationships were Bobbi’s greatest talent. She never met a stranger. A waiter, a neighbor, someone beside her on a plane all stood a good chance of leaving as a new friend. Her son Todd joked that she could have a conversation with a salt and pepper shaker and somehow make it feel loved. She was vibrant, fiercely independent, spontaneous, and unapologetically herself, real and authentic and never boring.
One of the great blessings of her life was her marriage to Reed Wernick. Introduced later in life through mutual friend David Goldstein, they were husband and wife, best friends, and each other’s favorite person.
Bobbi loved colorful art, Dallas Mavericks basketball, Mahjong, cruises, a cold Diet Coke or Dr Pepper, and her travels to Ecuador and Mexico. She was famous for her brisket and gooey chocolate chip bars, recipes that became traditions of their own.
Family was the center of Bobbi’s universe. Nothing brought her more joy or pride than her children, Todd, Amy, and Julie; her grandchildren, Paige, Aaron, and Lauren; and her great-grandson, Lincoln, whose arrival delighted her beyond measure. From there, her family only grew. She collected people her whole life, countless adopted children, grandchildren, and friends too many to count, who knew her as Mama Stein, Grandma Bobbi, or G-Bobbi. Everyone was welcome. She was also deeply connected to her Jewish faith as a member of Congregation Nishmat Am.
Bobbi is survived by her loving husband, Reed Wernick; her children Todd Stein and wife Kate, Amy Miller, and Julie Stein; her step-daughter, Rachel Wernick; grandchildren Paige Jacobs and husband Benji Jacobs, Aaron Miller, and Lauren Bernstein; great-grandson Lincoln Jacobs; sister Maureen Sampson; beloved sister-in-law and lifelong friend Varna Bernstein; niece Rebecca Grey; nephew Ted Sampson; Pamela Pinkus; and countless extended family and honorary children whose lives she enriched.
Bobbi made people feel seen. She listened, she welcomed, she celebrated, she loved generously. As she would say, “Oy vey.” And because she never let anyone leave without hearing it, one final “I love you.”
