Jeannette Kendrick Shirley Terry was born December 13, 1930 in North Adams, MA and passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 3, 2012. Jeannette lived life to the fullest measure and is remembered most for her quick witted sense of humor and maintaining a passion for life even as she endured the pain of cancer and post polio syndrome. The Shirley family was very actve and well known in Berkshire County, MA. Jeannette attended North Adams schools: Pine Cobble and Northfield Schools for Girls. The family moved to Troy, NY when her father accepted a position with Behr-Manning Corp. Jeannette graduated from Lansingburgh High School in 1949 then attended Russell Sage College in Troy, NY. On November 8, 1952 she married Stephen Albert Terry son of Mr. & Mrs. William Bradford Terry of Larchmont, NY, formerly of Hillsdale, NJ. Mr. Terry graduated from Middlebury College in Vermont with the Class of 1951 and enlisted in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. While Steve was transferred to Alaska, she was employed by the New York Bell Telephone Company until his return in late 1953. First son, Stephen Bradford Terry was also born in North Adams, MA and delivered by the same doctor and nurse as Jeannette. While living in Hatboro, PA, their second son, John Shirley Terry was born at Abington Memorial Hospital. After living in Clearbrook Village, Hatboro, PA for 11 years Steve took a position with Texas Instruments and relocated to Dallas in 1965. Jeannette was preceded in death by her parents, John G. Shirley and Doris Pomeroy Crossman, brothers Lt.John G. Shirley Jr. and Robert B. Shirley and grandson Nolan Bradford Terry. Jeannette is survived by her husband of 59 years, Stephen A. Terry of Garland, Texas. She is also survived by her two sons Stephen Bradford Terry and his wife Chylon of Rio Rancho, New Mexico and John S. Terry of Garland, Texas. Jeannette is survived by five grandchildren Genevieve Nichols Petersen and her husband Keith, Abram Eugene Terry, Brittni Terry Hess and her husband Jarett, Naomi Terry Ramirez and her husband Jeremy, Duston Taylor Terry plus four great grandchildren Kyler Joseph Terry, Hagan William Hess, Hyatt Virginia Hess and William Francis Petersen. A Celebration of Life will be held 3:00pm Saturday, July 14, 2012 at North Dallas Funeral Home. A reception will follow in Richardson, TX. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate a donation to the American Cancer Society.
