Obituary

Ted Dundas Treadaway was born on June 23, 1925 and went to be with his passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2012. He will be terribly missed by his family and all who knew him. Ted was highly respected for his Christian values both in business and in his personal life and will always be remembered by his many friends for his sense of humor.Ted graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1943. After 2 1/2 years in the U.S. Navy, in World War II, in the South Pacific on aircraft carriers, he married Betty Jane Dickerson, then graduated from SMU. Ted went into business with his father in Chrysler-Plymouth and Lincoln-Mercury franchises in Oak Cliff and opened his own automobile business in 1957. He was Dallas' oldest Toyota dealer from 1967 through 1988 when he retired, having owned Treadaway Toyota in Richardson and operating it with his son, Mike Treadaway.He was the recipient of the Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award in 1980 and the Sports Illustrated Imported Automobile Dealer of Distinction Award in 1982. He served as president of the New Car Dealers Association of Metropolitan Dallas in 1982, and by appointment of then Governor Bill Clements he served a six year term on the Texas Motor Vehicle Commission in Austin.Ted was a member of Park Cities Baptist Church for 60 years and served as a Life Deacon. He loved his Sunday School Class and was an active volunteer in a number of mission projects. He also served on the Board of Trustees of Dallas Baptist University and after retirement, was a member of the North Dallas Golden Kiwanis Club.Throughout his life, Ted's greatest joy was in seeing people reach Salvation through Jesus Christ.He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty; son, Mike and his wife, Lisa and 5 grandchildren, Ryan Martin, Heather Martin Schmidt and Jonathon, Courtney Treadaway and Rachel, Marshall Treadaway and Alison, Lauren Treadaway Midgley and Caleb, seven great-grandchildren, his sister, Jean Walden of Fort Worth, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patty Treadaway Martin, his sister Jane Treadaway Pass and his step-sister-in-law, Connie Hazard.A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Park Cities Baptist Church, Ellis Chapel, 3933 Northwest Parkway Dallas, Texas 75225.Memorials may be made to the Senior Adult Ministry at Park Cities Baptist Church, 3933 Northwest Parkway, Dallas, TX 75225.
