Obituary

After a courageous two year battle with pancreatic cancer, Nancy Lee (Smith) Trimble (80) of Dallas, TX passed away on Friday, April 10, 2015 with her loving husband by her side.The daughter of Boss and Allie Smith, Nancy was born in Omaha, TX on July 25, 1934. She attended Paul H. Pewitt High School in Omaha, TX where she graduated at the age of 16 years old and started college at East Texas State College in Commerce. TX. Nancy graduated in 1955 from ET with a degree in Elementary Education. She started her professional teaching career in Wilmer-Hutchins TX teaching 8th grade World History. Eventually Nancy ended up in the Irving Independent School District where she spent 33 years teaching 2nd grade at Farine Elementary and where she retired from in 1990. After retiring Nancy could not get teaching out of her blood, she continued tutoring students in reading, math and language arts. At the time of her death she was still mentoring teachers with her wisdom and love of the profession.Nancy was very active and involved member of Christ United Methodist Church, where she and her husband Floyd were charter members, helping start the church in January, 1957 in the cafeteria of a local elementary school. She was an active member of the Martha Laird Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Mt. Pleasant, TX. She served twice as Chapter Regent, twice as Chaplain, and held many other executive offices of the chapter. She was also the co-chair of the State DAR Credentials Committee. She and Floyd are life members of the Association of Texas Professional Educators. Nancy and Floyd have been employed by the State Fair of Texas since 1996 to the present.Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Boss and Allie Smith, brothers David and Willard, and sister Betty Wagoner. She is survived by her husband Floyd of the home in which she and Floyd had been married for 60 years, her daughters Susan Williams and husband Kevin of Edmond, OK and Sharon Abbey and husband Brian of Frisco, TX. She and Floyd also have four grandchildren that she adored and was always interested in what was going on in their lives, Jeremy Williams and wife Michelle of Honolulu, HI, Amber Abbey-Puckett and husband Matt of McKinney, TX, Jennifer Williams of Edmond, OK and Connor Abbey of Frisco, TX. She also leaves behind loving siblings, Ernest Smith, Richard Smith, Helen Hampton and Cynthia Owens. Also, many loved brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews and many, many friends.Visitation will be 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, April 14th at the North Dallas Funeral Home in Farmers Branch. Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 15th at Christ United Methodist Church in Farmers Branch.The family request donations to be made to Christ United Methodist Church in Nancys name or to the American Cancer Society-Pancreatic Cancer Research.
