Munoz
May 23, 1937 – May 4, 2024
Trinidad Munoz 5/23/1937 – 5/04/2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Trinidad Munoz, Shady Shores (Formerly from Farmers
Branch) who was called to the Lord on May 4, 2024. Trinidad was born on Holy Trinity Sunday in Italy, Texas
on May 23, 1937 to Francisco and Dominga Munoz. His first love, Mary, died May 5, 2003.
Left to mourn is Trinidad's spouse, Lynda Avon Munoz, who will tell you how much he loved to visit with
people, and how he loved to dance, even though he had painful neuropathy in his feet. Trinidad and Lynda
met at a Farmer's Branch senior center dance one Monday evening almost 13 years ago. They found each
other again at Carrollton senior center dance the following Thursday night and continued dancing the night
away. This was the beginning of their love and dedication for each other.
Also left to mourn is his son, Dr. Trinidad Munoz, Jr. and wife Donna Galatas from Frisco. Trinidad was very
proud of his son. He would tell you about his son's hours of study in Inorganic Chemistry and about his many
accomplishments. Trinidad would venture to Alaska with his son on fishing expeditions which he dearly loved
and he loved to tell you his fishing stories.
Of Trinidad's 11 brothers and sisters, there are only two living; his sister Mary Lou (Mica) and husband Lee
Contreras, Argyl; brother, Frank Munoz, Jr., and wife Mary, Irving.
He also leaves step children who loved him very much and would do anything for him. They are Brian
Whitlock, & wife Ruth Ann, CO; Craig Whitlock, & wife Lin, GA; Bonnie Whitlock, Canada & Trina Council, CO.
He also leaves many other relatives and friends.
As a youngster, Trinidad loved to play baseball. He played baseball all 4 years of high school and at University
of Dallas where he received his bachelor's degree. He was a pitcher as well as a switch hitter.
Trinidad's true passion was working with Boy Scouts since 1974. He held numerous positions. He would talk
about how he and other fellow volunteers would pick up equipment and supplies and get to the camps to set
up before the scouts arrived.
At one time, he was scout leader for 5 packs simultaneously. In the North District Committee, he held
positions in The Order of the Arrow as Chapter Advisor, Camping Committee Chairman, and Unit
Commissioner.
Trinidad took a leadership role in the implementation of "after-school programs" in Northwest Dallas. He
assisted in School Night for Scouting membership recruitment efforts where translation of language created
insurmountable barriers with many of the youths and their parents. Through his leadership, the council was
able to help Spanish speaking parents feel comfortable and helped them become involved in not only
Scouting, but other school and community events. He was awarded the Spirit of Achievement Founder's
Award and is the recipient of the Silver Beaver award is a distinguished service award for impacting the lives of
youths. He has worked with council-wide events such as the Scout Show, Pow Wow Cub Leader training, the
Catholic Religious Relations Committee, and the Council Hispanic Committee.
Trinidad provided his services to help improve the buildings and Circle Ten Council properties. He continued
to be active. In 2019 he attended a Scouting convention in Bloomington, Indiana.
On May 20, 2020, Trinidad was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Order of the Arrow National
Committee. This is the highest award for Distinguished, Outstanding and Devoted service to the Order of the
Arrow on a national basis. On June 7, 2020, he was presented the Distinguished OOMA GOOMa Award for
exceptional service for youth leadership and participation of the National Order of the Arrow Conference over
extended periods.
Trinidad was also active in the community years ago by serving as President of the Texas Red Nation Society.
He was also on the Farmer's Branch Recharter Committee and on their Education task force.
Trinidad served in the U.S. Army Reserve where he could be trained from home and continue his career and
education, standing ready for duty when called.
Trinidad was sole proprietor of Trinidad Glass and Metal, a minority business enterprise, which he registered
with the North Central Texas Regional Certification Agency. Trinidad was energetic, ambitious; and hard working.
Though Trinidad no longer walks beside us, his spirit lives on in the memories we hold dear and the legacy he
leaves behind.
Our Lord now holds him in his arms; he is now at peace and comfort, free of pain, softly dancing.
