A true visionary in the field of Special Education, Jean McElreath Walling (Aileen Jean McElreath) died November 24, 2019 due to complications associated with Alzheimers Disease.She was 87.Jean liked to say she was a specialist in teaching ordinary things to extraordinary kids.The Dallas-based firm Jean established, Technical Perspectives, was one of the first in the nation to developed computer-based Individual Educational Plans, helping teachers and school systems better assist students with special needs.Countless students with special needs benefited from Jeans professional work and will continue to benefit from her imprint in perpetuity.Jean earned a masters degree in early childhood development from the University of Texas-Austin, where she also received a bachelors degree in music.She played the piano beautifully.Her first job in special education was with the Texas State School for the Blind, where she taught piano and other subjects to blind and partially blind students.Jean was an accomplished artist, primarily painting watercolors.She loved to travel and made innumerable trips all over the world with her dear friend, Lou Gilliam.Jean got the travel bug from traveling in Europe with her mother, Aileen McElreath of Houston.Predeceasing Jean were her parents; two brothers, Ross and Bert McElreath of Houston; and former husband, William E. Walling of Grapeland, TX.Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Bryan Campbell; daughter Hilary Myers and her former husband, Don; teenage grandchildren Cooper and Tess Myers; all of Dallas.Also surviving are Jeans brother Mark McElreath of Washington, D.C.; nieces and nephews, Sara Satornino of Fremont, Ohio; Steven McElreath of Troy, NC; Greg McElreath of Austin; Todd McElreath of Houston;Martha Thomas of Waco; Julia Bayless of Montgomery Village, MD; Scott McElreath of Raleigh, NC; Amy Devaney of Martinsburg, WV; Cheryl Warrilow of Houston; and many wonderful great-nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be held in March; please see her Facebook page and this site for updates and details.In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to theAlzheimer's Association.Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
