Dorothy Sue Whelan, "Dot", 82,died June 17, 2011 with familymembers at her side at Medical City Hospital Dallas. She was born on August 14, 1928, the only child of Hugh and Clara McCelvey, in Vernon, Texas. She grew up in Lubbock with her paternal grandparents after her mother died when Dot was five. She graduated from Lubbock High School and attended Texas Tech College where she met and married Paul Whelan. A homemaker and loving mother to three childrenDot was active in PTA and bridgeclub while the family resided inLubbock. In 1966 the family moved to Dallas, Texas, where Dot later began a career as a personnelrecruiter for a Cockrell-Hull Personnel Agency.In retirement her interests included her pets, travel, friends and, most importantly, her family, devoting much of her time and energy to enjoying her two grandchildren while they were young. Survived by her children, Paula, Mike and Mel, her grandchildren, Rebecca and Matthew and her ex-husband, Paul. Dot is loved by many and will be greatly missed. Dot leaves many close friends andrelatives in Lubbock and Dallas. A private memorial for friends andfamily will be held on Saturday,June 25th.
