William "Bil" Rayburn Compton XIII

1934 – 2024

Bil Compton died peacefully on July 16, 2024 in his home in Prosper, Texas at the age of 89. His daughter Wendy was with him at the time of his passing. Bil was larger than life and was known for being the life of the party.

Bil was born in Wheeling, West Virginia in 1934 to William Boyd Compton XII and Esther Ellen Rayburn. His father passed away when he was two years old so he was raised by his mother and two older sisters in Washington DC. He joined the Air Force at the age of 17. He loved that he got to see the world. His military travel led him into his career in the travel industry. He worked for Braniff International as a ticket agent until 1982. He then opened his own Travel Agency, Art of Travel.

Staring in the 60's Bil began coaching pee wee sports including football and baseball. He took his pee wee football team, The Bombers and won the National Championship. Until his death he was still in touch with many of the National Championship players.

He lived life to the fullest enjoying skydiving, scuba diving, snow skiing, riding motorcycles, playing guitar, singing in a band, sailing, among many other hobbies. One of his favorite hobbies was golf. He was a member of Brookhaven Country Club for many years and played golf every day.

Bil was proceeded in death by his parents William and Esther Compton, sisters Ellen Compton-Tejera, and Abigail Kelly.

He is survived by his only child, daughter Wendy Walker and her husband Dewayne Walker of Prosper, Texas; his grandchildren Nikki Sfikas and her husband Mark Sfikas of Aubrey, Texas, and Austin Walker of Charlotte, North Carolina; his great-grandchildren, Sadie and Cade Sfikas, and Nephew Peter Clarke, his wife Lois Clarke and their children of California.

Military Honor Burial will take place at the DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211, on August 8, 2024 at 2:15 pm.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Stonebriar Country Club, 5050 Country Club Drive Frisco, TX 75034 at 6:00 pm on August 9, 2024. As this is a celebration we ask that attendees to wear his favorite color red. Please RSVP to BilCelebrationRSVP@gmail.com.
