Obituary

William (Bill) Edward Turbitt, beloved husband, dad, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully on April 1, 2024 surrounded by his family after a 22-month battle with brain cancer.

He was born September 18, 1951, in Providence, RI, the son of the late John Turbitt and Anne (Ralston) Turbitt. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Diane (Leimkuehler) Turbitt; daughter Jennifer (Turbitt) Pearson and her husband, Matt; and son Kyle Turbitt and his wife, Lauren. In addition, he is survived by three (soon to be four) grandchildren, Lily and Walker Pearson, and Hallie Turbitt. He is also survived by his sister, Joyce Distefano, and his brother, Jack Turbitt, and wife, Cindy, plus many nephews and nieces.

Bill grew up in Warwick, RI for 29 years before moving to Pasadena, TX, then to Overland Park, KS and lastly settling in McKinney, TX where he lived for his final 10 years. Bill attended Bishop Hendricken High School, earned a MS in Plant Pathology and Entomology from University of Rhode Island, and later received his MBA from University of Missouri – Kansas City. Over the years, he maintained many friendships, including classmates from the 1970s, and often reminisced about his college days and joyful memories with his Phi Mu Delta brothers.

After 30 years, Bill retired as the Director for the USDA-FSA where he built a career working and providing for his family.

Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, relaxing on beaches, traveling internationally, playing golf, skiing, camping, canoeing, and playing dominoes with friends. He was an avid traveler, having taken ocean cruises to St Petersburg, Russia, Rome, Italy, and the Mediterranean. Additionally, he toured by land to Paris, London, Prague, Budapest, Australia, and New Zealand.

He was genuine, honorable, caring, strong, and fun. We will miss his financial knowledge, teaching us home improvement tips, and, most of all, the time we shared with him.

The Celebration of Life will be held May 11, 2024 at Messiah Lutheran Church, Plano, TX at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Dr. Victor J. Kollmann.

In lieu of flowers, for those that would like to make a memorial contribution, the family respectfully request they be made to Messiah Lutheran Church to support cancer research and Lutheran church ministries.
