Noal D. Winder Gramps, born October 5, 1931 went to be with the passed away on the morning of February 19, 2016. His passing was peaceful in his home where he was comforted by the love of family. He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Walterman; his son, Kirby Winder; two stepdaughters (although he never considered anyone to be stepfamily), Kathee Wagoner, Sherry Althaus; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, as well as many other family members and friends. He was easy to love, and so hard to let go of.Noal Deane Winder was born in Covert, Kansas to Veria Edith Overday at age 29 and Clyde Marvin Winder at age 30.Noal grew up in the depression and like most he had to work at a very young age. His first job was selling soda. He was about 6 when he ventured out trying to find a way to earn some money, and ended up with a wagon that he filled with ice and soda that he pulled around to various places mainly work sites to sell to laborers. On May 16, 1947 he was awarded a diploma from Colorado Public Schools for completion of elementary study. He had a quarter horse named Scout and his first car was a Model A Ford Coupe. At the young age of 19 he learned from a girl he was dating, that his name was coming up on the list to be drafted into the Korean War. He put his affairs in order and decided he would be better off to enlist in the Navy It was only a couple weeks in, and the captain asked for volunteers to do a special mission, when no one offered the captain randomly started pointing, and Noal was one of about a dozen other men that were sent into direct combat from the U.S.S. Ozbourn naval ship. Noal received an Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Armed Forces United States Navy March 8, 1955. He received four medals during his service which include the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the China Service Medal. He went on to marry Ruby, and have two children Cheryl and Kirby. The marriage did not last, and they divorced. He kept letters from the courts regarding custody where he had been denied, and he spent years searching for them. He was recently reunited with both of his biological children which brought him a lot of joy after having missed them for so long. Noal moved in search of work and ended up in Texas where he met Wanda. She was divorced with three children of her own Kathleen, Sherry and John. They married and settled in Washington State sometime later where he began his career as an aircraft mechanic for the Boeing Company from which he retired. Noal and Wanda were a loving couple who never went to bed angry. Noal was widowed on April 2, 1995 at age 64. He has a great sense of humor and his grandchildren and great grandchildren all have fond memories of games he would play with them. Due to his illness, it had been a while since he was up to playing, but he still had fun convincing the kids that he had a worm in his arm, and that an old sheep tick scar on the back of his head was a bullet hole and that the bullet flew out of his mouth. He was a good man, and will be missed more than words can say. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
