Paul Lewis Wright, 89, passed on February 1, 2015 in Dallas, Texas after a long illness. The son of Floyd Hoag Wright and Sylvia Mae Lewis Wright and brother of the late Mary Louise Meriwether, Paul was born in Enid, Oklahoma on June 26, 1925. While a student at Enid High, he participated in band and debate, winning many state and national awards and laying the foundation for what would become a distinguished legal career. Upon graduation from high school, he briefly attended Phillips University in Enid before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1943. He was particularly proud to have served and tented with the Navajo Code Talkers during his time in the military. He also took part in the Occupation of Japan, which inspired him to a lifelong love of the history, archeology, art and architecture not only of that country, but of many cultures as well.Upon leaving the Marines, he enrolled at Harvard, and after graduating received a Knox Fellowship to attend Oxford University, where he studied the influence of the Jesuits on English Common Law. He then returned to Harvard Law School. Beginning his practice of law with Maguire and Cole in Stamford, Connecticut, he next went to work for the Eisenhower Administration helping establish the Enforcement Division of the SEC. It was while in Washington that he met Alison Margaret Mossler, who he married in 1960 and who shared his life with for the next 54 years.Together, the couple came to Dallas shortly after their marriage when Paul went to work for the law firm of Jackson Walker. After retiring from Jackson Walker he practiced independently with the Ray Trotti Hemphill law firm He authored a number of articles, served as Secretary of the Committee of Law and Accounting of the American Bar Association, and was elected a lifetime fellow of the Texas Bar Association.Paul served as President of the Harvard Club of Dallas in 1989 and 1990, and is one of only five members elected directors emeritus for life for that organization. A lifelong patron of the opera and theater, he also gave back to his community. He served as an elder for the Community of Reconciliation Presbyterian Church. At Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, he taught Disciple I, ushered and taught a Bible 101 class of his devising. He helped to educate young attorneys by participating in moot courts at SMUs Dedman School of Law, he judged high school debate competitions and gave generous financial support to many charities.He enjoyed a long and happy retirement with his wife and grandchildren, traveling to many of places of interest, including Greece, Turkey, Britain, Crete and Israel.Paul is survived by his wife, Alison, his son Max, his son Doug and his son-in-law David, his daughter Margaret and his grandsons Elliot and Ian.In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to The American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75231; The SPCA of Texas, 2400 Lone Star Drive, PO Box 660412, Dallas TX 75266-0412; and The Stewpot Homeless Service, 1835 Young Street, Dallas TX 75201.A memorial service is scheduled for February 28, 2015, at eleven a.m. at the Chapel, Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, 9800 Preston Road, Dallas TX 75230.
