Obituary of Phelps, William Carne

William Carne Phelps, of Fort Worth, TX, passed from this life August 13, 2014.  He was born January 21, 1933 in Oak Park, IL, to William C. Phelps and Edith Jackson Phelps. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife of 51 years, Lois, his brother Jack, and a daughter-in-law, Deborah.  He is survived by his wife, Velma, and his children Dave (Gaybeth), Bill (Kristi), Joy Vroonland (David), and John (Jennifer), and his sister Betsy. He also had 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, all of whom have been very close and supportive through the years. A gifted jeweler for 25 years, he started working in a tent in New Hampshire, and had jewelry stores in Plano, TX and Naples, FL.  He could make anything with his hands, and was a fine craftsman and artist, making radio controlled airplanes, furniture and violins.  His greatest joy was his family and friends, and little dog Sammie, all of whom will remember him as being very quick with a joke and a smile.  He will be dearly missed, but will always be in our hearts. Celebration of life will be at 2pm, Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 5871 Virginia Pkwy, McKinney, TX.  Memorials may be made to World Vision. Please send family condolences and sign the guestbook on this website.

I’m so sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Phelps. I got to know the family in the late 70’s. A wonderful kind family full of so many talents.

I remember Bill Phelps as a patient in an ophthalmology office I worked in years ago. He was always such a kind gentleman, and a true craftsman with his beautiful jewelry designs, and it was always fun to see his work. He and I shared a love of good food and what I remember most was one day at the office, he entered the exam room and gleefully exclaimed “I found the best barbecue marinade–Mojo! You have to try it!” He was a fun patient. My condolences to his family… This was a man full of life. Godspeed Bill Phelps! Karen Sparks
