Obituary of
Schmalz, Earl Albert
Earl Albert Schmalz, 92, passed peacefully Sept. 9, 2014 at Presbyterian Village North in Dallas. He was the only child of Philip Elmer and Frieda Pauline, born May 16, 1922 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years Ruth Helen. Earl was a part of the Hughes High School graduating class of 1940 in Cincinnati. Drafted into the Army in 1942, he served as a Technical Sergeant with the 132d Ordnance Medium Maintenance Company during the European Theatre of Operation during World War II. Earl used the GI Bill to attend the University of Cincinnati and graduated with a degree in Business Administration in 1956. He was proud of his many years of service with Ryder Truck Rental. He had a great love of history and western art which he enjoyed sharing with everyone. Last September he was honored to be a part of Honor Flight DFW trip #15 as a veteran visiting the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. He is survived by his two daughters, Barbara Smelser husband Ron of Charlotte, N.C.; and Nancy Dunham husband Tom of Highlands Ranch, CO; grandson Tad Dunham wife Elizabeth of Mendota Heights, MN; granddaughter Sara Wilkerson husband Glenn of Highlands Ranch, CO; granddaughter Elizabeth Fox husband Nich of Wheaton, MD; grandson Jeff Dunham wife Ashley of Anderson, IN; and grandson Peter Smelser wife Jessica of Calabasas, CA. He is also survived by his five great-grandchildren Addison, Sophia, Hailey, Austin and Olivia. A memorial service will be held Monday, September 15, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, 3821 University Blvd, Dallas, Texas 75205. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Highland Park Presbyterian Church Good Samaritan Fund or the American Heart Association.
