Prudence Assaf DiVincenzo passed away September 18th at her home surrounded by her daughter, friends and beloved Golden Retriever.
Pru was the daughter of Foet and Juanita Assaf and grew up in McComb, Mississippi. In the early 1950's, she was a fixture on the McComb High School football field where she led the marching band as drum majorette. Pru attended LSU where she earned a BS in Education. Ā She continued her twirling career as head majorette. Ā She also met and married 1956 undefeated champion boxer, Crowe Peele. Ā They had one daughter, Robbi Peele. In the early 1960's, Pru and Robbi moved to New York City where Pru worked as a legal secretary. Ā She married a second time to architect, Tito DiVincenzo. Ā They remained married until his death in 1983 from lung cancer. Pru founded The Tapestry Tent, a national hand-painted needlepoint wholesale company and a retail outlet on Madison Avenue on Manhattan's upper east side. Ā She was the sole designer. Later, she combined her artistic and culinary talents as a caterer and event planner in Dallas, Texas in the 1980's where she founded Putting On The Ritz. Ā She dazzled clients with her ability to make every event a feast for the eye and the palate for the next twenty five years. Even when arthritis forced Pru to retire from catering, she continued to work. Ā She returned to her love of the legal profession and learned the skill of scoping so that she could do courtroom Ā transcription. Over the years. Pru spent much of her time visiting her daughter in Paris, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Ā She had hoped to visit her in her new home In south Florida, but her battle with lung cancer prevented the trip.
