Obituary of
McKinney, Thomas Allen
Thomas Allen McKinney passed away peacefully Friday, November 14, 2014 at the age of 69. Tom was a warrior in his fight to overcome his battle with cancer over the last five years. He has been an inspiration to his family and friends, never uttering a word of complaint. Tom began each day with “Thank you Lord for this beautiful day and the challenges and opportunities before me.” That trust in God and same positive attitude served him well throughout his lifetime.
Tom was born January 22, 1945 in Saginaw, Michigan to Robert Ray and Mary Margaret (Gaertner) McKinney. Upon graduation from Saints Peter & Paul High School, he went on to attend Delta College. From there he joined the Naval Reserves and served in Vietnam on active duty in 1968. Tom was proudly a Direct Distributer with Amway Corporation for almost 40 years, an insurance broker for 30 years and in 2001 he opened up his own business, MedTec Imaging, Inc. For fun, Tom enjoyed skiing, photography, growing his business knowledge and spending time with his family and friends.
In search of a warmer climate Tom moved to Dallas in 1976 where he met and married,
Rosanne Blanch McKinney in 1982. Their son Allen Robert was born in 1985. In addition to Rosanne and Allen, Tom is survived by his sister, Joyce Hoffman, neices Robin Zackheim, Stephanie Davis, Deana Blanch; nephews Peter Hoffman and Alexander Bilancia.
He brought his positive can-do attitude to everything he did and everyone he met. Tom was a Jaycee while living in Phoenix, Arizona and severed as an usher at St. Catherine of Siena Church here in Carrollton, Texas. His relationship with God was especially significant to him. Tom cherished his time on earth but he was right with the Lord. We will miss him forever.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Catherine of Siena, 1705 E. Peters Colony Road, Carrollton, TX 75007, on November 19, at 10:00am with a visitation an hour before. Tom's final resting place will be at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas.
In lieu of flowers, Tom's special request, for those wishing to honor his memory, is to donate to Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary. This non-profit was founded by his cousin, Kari Bagnall, who serves as Director. Envelopes will be provided at receiption or online donation at www.junglefriends.ORG
Family would like to invite you to a reception immediately following Funeral Mass in the Assisi Hall.
