Obituary of Meza, Jose

JOSE MEZA, was born July 9, 1928 and passed away on January 29, 2015. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Isabella Meza, 4 brothers, Jesus, Juan, Benito and Alfredo Meza, and 1 sister, Guadalupe Hastings. Jose is survived by his wife Inge and sons Carlos and Mark, and 6 sisters — Isabel Morado, Maria Gutierrez, Lucy DeArkos, Estela Vega, Elena Meister and Rosa Garcia. Our beloved father and devoted husband overcame many obstacles and achieved great things in his life. Jose attended Martin High School in Laredo, Texas, then Laredo Junior College and then joined the United States Air Force 1946. Jose then served his country again in the US Army during the Korean War. Jose went on to earn a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree at Oklahoma State University in Electrical Engineering, becoming the first-ever Martin High School graduate to earn a Master's degree. Jose, always giving even when he had little to give, faithfully helped his mother financially for many years and helped pay for 3 of his sisters' college education. Jose dutifully fulfilled a 38-year career as an Electronic Engineer and loved his family and his work, finally retiring in 2001. In October 2014, Jose and Inge celebrated 50 years of love, sharing and total devotion. During retirement, they were able to travel all over the world, and enjoyed many happy and memorable experiences, together celebrating the wonderful beauty this life has to offer. The cruel realties of ALS limited Dad's ability to fully enjoy the good fortune of a comfortable retirement that he so absolutely deserved. Jose will forever be remembered by his family and friends for demonstrating the quintessential qualities of endurance, patience and loving kindness of which he was the epitome of throughout his life. Our Dad was the ultimate Giver and Self-sacrificer for his family, never letting his ego and pride interfere with what was best for the family and never putting himself first. Jose was always looking out for the wellbeing of the people around him. Even being greatly incapacitated physically by ALS during the last year and a half of his life, he was often recognized by the nurses at his assisted living facility as a consummate gentleman, always trying to help the ladies get seated and make sure they were comfortable. His steadiness and calm demeanor during trying moments was much admired by his family and colleagues during his professional career. Always the team player and known as the "go to person" for advice and problem solving, he had a special gift of sharing his knowledge without holding back for competitive reasons, and without thought or expectation of reward. He made his family and company very proud by being awarded a United States Patent in 1988, which hangs proudly on the wall in our home. Jose leaves behind not only his wisdom and his lessons in kindness, patience and understanding for us to cherish for the rest of our lives, but a collection of one-of-a-kind treasures in the form of intricately detailed pencil drawings he created during his retirement years. His little sketch books went everywhere with him to capture the scenes, memories and special moments. Creative and talented, Jose found fulfillment in being with and enjoying his family, his career, and his artistic and devoted capturing of the world around him. Please send family condolences and sign the guestbook on this website.

My condolences. He was a great man and was very kind to me and my family. I will always remember his birds and how he used to eat corn on the cob on kernel at a time. A very inspirational person.
