Obituary of Jensen, Stephen Edward

Stephen Jensen is remembered in several ways: as a father, a son, a brother, a boyfriend, a friend, a writer, and a leader.  Overall, Steve is remembered as a passionate person with a big heart, a lively spirit, and many outstanding qualities.  His pride and joy were his children, Jordan and Stephanie, ages 24 and 22.  He was glad that he was able to provide them with a college education and that he lived to see both of them graduate.  Besides his children, Steve is survived by mother, Madeleine Jensen of FL, brothers, Scott (wife, Cheryl) and Stuart (wife, Laura) Jensen of CT, sisters, Susan and Sandra of FL, and girlfriend of 15+ years, Roxanne Milton. Growing up in Connecticut, Steve was one of five children.  After graduating from college with a degree in journalism, Steve began his career as a newspaper reporter.  He later switched to the field of proposal writing/management, which he successfully pursued for the remainder of his life.  He was a Fellow, and highly regarded member, of the Association of Proposal Management Professionals (APMP) to which he donated his time as a committee chairperson for 16 years. After moving to Dallas in 1999, Steve was very active in the local tennis community and held many leadership positions in the Dallas Racquet Club, including three years as president. We celebrate Steve’s life.  We celebrate Steve as a loving person, a devoted son and father, and always loyal to his family.  We celebrate Steve’s dedication to a career that he loved.  We celebrate Steve’s active participation in his areas of interest.  We celebrate Steve’s many talents, including as an adept tennis player.  We celebrate his faith in God and that he will be with Him for eternity.  We celebrate the many people that Steve affected, and by whom he will be lovingly remembered. Please send the family condolences on this website.

I just found out about Steve’s passing last night. I worked with Steve for a number of years at Logica and always found him an absolute gentleman. I still use a lot of what he taught me over the years on proposals that I do today. Steve will be missed by all who knew him and I’m sure he’ll be looking over my shoulder correcting my grammar for many years to come… A true Gentleman.

    To the Jensen family,
I was so sad to hear about Stephen. We have so many good memories of growing up with the Jensens. Stephen was one year younger than I (almost to the day)so we were great playmates. We were so lucky to have lived in our little Birch/Zimmer Road neighborhood. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. We very much appreciated your note on my father’s passing.

What a great turnout on Monday and celebration of Steve’s life. I had the pleasure of working with Steve at LogicaCMG / Acision for 9+ years. Always the professional and always wiling to help me anytime I needed it. He was one of the most articulate bid people I have ever worked with. Incredible attention to detail. Most days Steve was at the office before me and I always looked forward to spending the last 15 to 30 (usually well after office hours) minutes of my day at his desk discussing current events, things we were working on, kids and a whole host of topics. Age wise we were very close he was 4 months younger than me. So we had graduated high school the same year and always enjoyed talking about our experiences and how things were growing up in the 50s and 60s. Although he grew up in Connecticut and I in Texas there were a lot of similarities. Rest in Peace my dear friend and thank you for always cheering up my day with some anecdote or joke. And thanks for reaching out and checking on me even after we left Acision. You were an incredibly caring person which was expressed through your interactions with everyone who you came in contact with. And as witnessed by all those who spoke (and many do did not) at your life celebration on Monday!

Steve was my official “Mentor-Peer Coach” at CenturyLink this past fall. Our Director, Frank Rowland, could not have chosen a better mentor for me. I am “the new girl” and Steve took me through the training routine proscribed by the company, but he also went above and beyond the standard training and shared many of his very well-organized lists of important links (essential in our rather large company) and lots of his own hard-won tips with me. He took his assignment to train me very seriously, and I will be ever-grateful to Steve for making my path to success at CenturyLink possible. We will all miss his fabulous and witty approach to staff meetings. In retrospect, he was becoming ill once again and yet he stuck with us and remained super-productive until the last possible moment that he could remain part of our team. I cannot imagine a more corageous attitude in the face of such an illness. Steve Jensen was really and truly the definition of integrity.

Time will fill the void that Steve leaves, but it will not be soon. We shared a lot of time on and off the courts. Dinners, shows, baseball games, Packer/Bucs viewing, parties and clean up work. His positive attitude was remarkable. I’m happy to have been a part of his life and a friend for so many years. Good- bye, Steve.

Steve was truly a one of a kind. He was a quiet giant in our proposal writing and management industry. Nobody will ever forget Steve’s smile and the way he made everyone feel happy just by being near. This is the first time in 16 years that Steve will not be with us as a volunteer at our annual meeting and we will miss him terribly. So long, Steve and thanks for all the good that you gave to so many people.
