York, Alvie Albert
Alvie Albert York of Rowlett TX, formerly of Groesbeck TX, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at the age of 89. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 23, 2015, at 2:00 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1005 North Red River Street in Mexia, TX 76667. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 the day of the funeral. Alvie was born October 28,1925 in Limestone County to W. H. and Mary Melissa (Sikes)York. He was a dedicated Jehovah’s Witness. He was a truck driver by trade, and had many CB friends that he kept in touch with. As a young man he was a baker at a local café in Mexia. He loved to cook and garden. He loved to eat pies and deserts. He is survived by his children: Ray York of Houston TX, Jerry York of Houston TX, Billy York of OK, Alvie A. York Jr. of Pakrump NV, Rose (York) Armstrong of California, Michael York of Las Vegas NV, Scott York of Lorena TX, Cheryl (York) Scruggs of Teague TX, Melissa (York) Cheney of Victoria TX, Daniel York of Midlothian TX, Robert Weiss II of PA., Timothy Weiss of AK, Jeffery Weiss of PA, Christi (Weiss) Lukus of PA, Cynthia (Weiss) Baxter of TX. He had 39 grandchildren, 42 great- grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and one brother Jim Ray York of Cotton Gin TX. Alvie was preceded in death by his wife of over 51 years Dorothy Fetterman York, his parents W. H. and Mary Melissa (Sikes)York , sister Retha (York) Smith and infant sister Meda Ruth York, one grand son Robert E.(Robbie) Weiss III and one nephew Joe Pat Smith. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
