Obituary of Pinson, Jackie Dale "Jackie Jett"

Jackie Dale “Jackie Jett” Pinson was born in Dallas County, Texas on June 17, 1956 to loving parents A.D. and Era Pinson.   He grew up in Grand Prairie, Texas and graduated from Grand Prairie High school before attending NTSU. Seeking a creative outlet, Jack relocated to West Hollywood, CA in the late 1970’s   where he found success as a model, traveling the globe to pursue his newfound career.  While in California, Jack found success working in the television/broadcast industry for CBS casting as well as becoming a media buyer for PRIME Television in Australia. One of the most exciting and fulfilling of his pursuits was becoming close friends with Belinda Carlisle, lead singer of the all-girl band “The Go-Go’s.” This all came to fruition when Jack became their road manager and personal assistant to Belinda. In 1993, having survived more friends than he cared to think about, and having lived through his share of earthquakes, Jack and his cherished Cornish Rex, Hey Dude returned to his beloved Dallas, Texas to be near family and friends.  Upon returning, Jack soon met his future partner, John Gennusa who survives Jack after 21 years together. During the past 21 years, Jack embarked on a new creative path by developing his writing skills, which he later parlayed into creating his own talk show that first aired on local cable access. John and Jack created BubbaBru Productions, named after two of their (late) canines, Bubba and Bruiser. It was at that time that a little known creative writer (as well as future film director and producer), Chris Renzel sent his resume to Jack. Upon receiving his resume, Jack called Chris for an interview.  Learning that he and Chris were cut from the same twisted cloth, they worked on the local cable access show entitled “The Jack E. Jett Show” (TJEJS). Within six months, the show was featured in the feature Documentary ACCESS NATION.  BubbaBru Productions joined forces with Bobby Goldstein Productions, Inc. (CHEATERS) to produce and distribute TJEJS.  Rare for any Cable Access produced shows, this show was sold to a Canadian Television Network and spawned several shows based on the Jack E. Jett character. The series of shows asked viewers to open their mind without fear of their brain falling out (of their head). Jack continued filming episodes until a scout for the Q Television Network (QTN), a new cable network, signed Jack’s show “The Jack E. Jett Show” to their network. Jack had made it to the big time. The show shifted gears somewhat and changed its name to “The QueerEdge with Jack E. Jett”. The show was about a talk show host on an epic search of the weirdest people on the planet. Guests ranged from a singing psychic to probably the worst ventriloquist in the world.  Jack also interviewed noteworthy celebrities such as: Barbara Eden, Debbie Reynolds, Joel Grey, Martin Short, Three Dog Night, Greg Louganis, Viola Davis, The Village People, and many, many more. Jack’s new show had a larger budget than before.  Jack also thought that his show would benefit from having super funny, crazy-talented actress and comedian, Sandra Bernhard as his co-host.  To his disbelief, Sandra said yes to the deal and the rest was television history. BubbaBru Productions, Inc. created “The QueerEdge with Jack E. Jett and Sandra Bernhard”, which was the anchor nightly show for the Q Television Network. The show presented cutting-edge bands and guests ranging from the man who prepares bologna and cheese sandwiches with his feet, to notable celebrities Alan Cumming and Michelle Lee. After winning a Telly Award for Most Original Programming in 2008 and after the closing of QTN, BubbaBru Productions sold the 140 hour long productions to various media outlets like Proud Television, Manic TV, Out TV, and was seen by audiences from New Zealand to Benelux Countries. Later breaking into radio in the 7th largest radio market, John Gennusa took The Jack E. Jett Show to Rational Radio for a two-hour afternoon chat fest.  This was definitely considered to be theatre of the mind.  The show won Jack E. Jett the Best Radio Personality two years running by the Dallas Voice. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, A.D. & Era as well as one brother, Kenneth Wayne.  He is survived by his partner of 21 years, John Gennusa, sadly, their three canine companions became two as Cowboy recently passed due to cancer, but two of their four-legged children survive – Karma and Harley; Jack’s brother, Horace Pinson and wife, Nancy, one sister-in-law, Wanda Pinson; nieces, Karen Taylor and husband, Joe, Teresa Bell and husband, Jeff; nephews, Kelly Pinson, Terry Pinson, and Pat Pinson.  In addition, some of the sweetest friends who treated Jack like family, Fred and Lori Kern, Shelly Beeman, Randy Crabtree, Rhonda Querner, David and Derek, Doug Crockett, and Craig Waddle (to name a few). A private celebration of life honoring Jack will be held later in the month. Please send the family condolences and/or share memories on this website.

I met Jack through his roommate, Perry Hawthorn in West Hollywood in the late 1970’s. I am also friends with Craig Waddle and Doug Crockett, although I have lost contact with everyone. I live at 3155 Plantation Run Dr, Loganville, GA, 30052 770-466-1260. I am on Facebook. I moved to CA to open a import/export business at the corner of Sunset/LaBrea, then South By Southeast marketing, the company that creates companies and manufactures ideas, (like Shark Tank today) from 1982-1999. I retired to GA to be closer to family in MI and FL.

John, my heart goes out to you and the rest of Jack’s family. Although my contact with Jack was through you, he always seemed to vibrant, so full of life, both sensitive and intelligent. You made a great team!

I don’t think it was intended to be used like this, but I always remember the Dr. Seuss quote in times like these, “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.” All of us who came in contact with Jack should smile and keep his memory close.
