Terry, John Shirley

John Shirley Terry (Red) was born on December 5, 1956 in Abington, Pennsylvania and passed away on June 8, 2015. He was 58.

John was a charismatic man with an infectious laugh. He is remembered as a loyal and loving father, a practical joker, and a raconteur with a story for every occasion (even if you thought you were only looking for directions). Red never met a stranger, and was particularly loved by kids and dogs. He wrote the best notes – whether it was a heartfelt letter telling you how much you meant to him or simply a silly drawing in your lunch box. John was hard-headed and infuriating, and he is gone too soon, but he will live on in the loving memories of those whose lives he touched.

John was preceded in death by his mother, Jeannette Kendrick Shirley Terry. John is survived by his father Stephen Albert Terry of Garland, TX; son Abram Eugene Terry; daughter Duston Terry Nguyen and her husband Peter; grandchildren Aiden Terry Nguyen and Kyler Joseph Terry; brother Stephen Bradford Terry with his wife Chylon and their family. Red is also lovingly remembered by Dottie Elizabeth Taylor, Genevieve Nichols Petersen, and many other relatives and friends.

Please join the Terry Family on Friday, June 26th, at 1:00 pm in the Brooks Family Chapel of the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234 to celebrate John Terry’s life, his infectious laugh and charismatic manner. We’re also hosting a reception afterwards at Texas Land & Cattle in Richardson, Texas.

For those of you who would like to send flowers, you can send them to the North Dallas Funeral Home, or you may make a memorial donation in his name to the American Heart Association.

John will never be forgotten in my heart. His is a kind and happy soul that loved every moment he lived. We were blessed to enjoy his humor and wit and were charmed by his sunny disposition. The world is a little emptier now, but his presence in heaven's eternal life casts pure light upon our universe and forever will. Thank you God, for allowing us to know and love him.

I'll always be grateful to the man that gave me my first "true love", our son, Abram Terry. I'm very glad we remained friends, you were a special man, for sure. You will be missed by so many....

Gail & John Kendrick want to express our sympathy in the loss of our good friend and neighbor John Terry, and extend any helpful need that the family may have in this time of sorrow. Being that John was an accomplished house painter an handyman, we will miss his good humor while he was performing his tasks while at our home. Paint the sky a vivid blue, John - we know you are in a heavenly place.
