Obituary of Lindley, Michael Ahearne

Lindley, Michael “Mike”, 71, devoted son, selfless family guardian and caretaker, faithful Christian servant, steadfast friend, ardent sports enthusiast, and trusted, astute, behind-the-scenes advisor to opinion leaders, passed away June 17, 2015. Mike’s devoted family was present when he passed on to be with his Lord and Savior.  His death was caused by pulmonary complications, even though he had been successfully fighting cancer for a year. A proud Dallas native, Mike was the son of Lt. Bennie Bob and LaVelle Lindley. His father died when Mike was 8, but LaVelle provided a solid, values-based upbringing for Mike and his siblings. He received a coveted scholarship from Jesuit Dallas and had a successful high school career, also playing for the school’s football and baseball teams. Friends and family say Mike became the personification of Jesuit’s call to be a “Man for Others.”  Wise, gentle and steady, Mike was the son, brother, uncle, and friend you could call for help at any hour. Mike also enjoyed “holding court” with treasured friends at Joe Miller’s, Louie’s, The Loon or Cliff’s to opine on local or national politics, his alma mater UT’s football prowess, Texas Rangers, and why golf is the greatest game. His career in politics and public service began as East Texas Field Manager in the Bill Clements 1978 gubernatorial campaign. In the words of his brother, Steve, “Mike was always the guy that made others look good.”  He was an advisor to Time Warner during the advent of cable here. Soon, he began working as a campaign strategist in efforts ranging from Steve Bartlett’s upset win for Dallas City Council to come-from-behind bond elections to contentious City Charter elections on Dallas governance and other critical issues in the ‘90s. Mike left politics to serve as Passport Manager for 10 years with the Dallas District Clerk. Praised for his service, Mike measured success only through his family’s compass because it provided him love, strength and guidance. Mike’s retirement was filled with the pursuit of hobbies, and he shouldered even more responsibilities, despite his own health challenges, to care for his sister and mother; LaVelle died in 2012.  Mike will be greatly missed by his family including sister Myra Walker, her son Sean; brother Steve, his wife Cindy, their daughters Jordan, Shannon and Evan, and Jordan’s daughter Ava; brother Kyle, his wife Jana their daughter and son Lauren and B.C; their extended families; as well as lifelong, cherished friends.  A memorial Mass will be held Monday, June 22 at 10:00 AM, at St Monica Catholic Church, 9933 Midway Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered to Jesuit College Preparatory Memorial Fund in Mike’s name or a charity of choice. Afterward, the parish will host a reception honoring Mike who served as Altar Boy at the first Mass held at St. Monica’s. Please send the family condolences and share memories on this website.
