Obituary of Herzog, James Peter

James Peter Herzog, age 72, of Dallas and Los Angeles passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2015.Ā Ā  Husband of Phyllis, father of Anjela and Jennifer, and grandfather to Olivia, Helena and Jacob, Jim was born and raised in Los Angeles and was a life long Angelino before moving to Dallas to be with his children and grandchildren.Ā  A graduate of UCLA, Jim practiced law in California for 37 years and attended to cases and conferences around the world. He always enjoyed his travels, fondly remembering the times his parents took him to Europe and South America, through to the many cruises and trips he would later take his grandchildren on.Ā Ā  He passionately loved music and the arts. He was a lifelong democrat, keen to discuss the merits (and failings) of the current administration. He also cultivated a fine taste for Scotch whiskeys, pipes and tobacco, watches, and cars.Ā Ā  Mainly he was involved with his diverse family and friends, enjoying the many gatherings, parties and events that would bring everyone together. A proud father, he looked forward to the times he would spend with Anjela and Jennifer, and especially took to his role of grandfather for Olivia, Helena and Jacob. Nothing was ever too much for him to do on their behalf, attending sports games, school recitals, taking them shopping (a favorite activity) and going on vacations.Ā  And of course he was a constant and loving companion to Phyllis through their 52 years of marriage.Ā  Funeral services will be held at Temple Emanu-El Cemetery, 3430 Howell Street, Dallas, Texas, 75204 on Friday, July 24th at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers please support the American Cancer Society. Please send the family condolences and share memories on this website.

Jim was a new friend to me. We met at a warm water rehab facility. Jim’s intelligence, fun personality and perseverance were character qualities that resounded. Don and I had hoped to go to dinner with you. Phyllis, may you and your family find comfort in the coming days. Pam and Don Relyea

I was so sad to hear of Jim’s passing. It takes me back to 40 years ago (almost to the day) when I joined Jim at Brent, Herzog & Mindell. I’m glad he was able to spend his last couple of years close to family. Bob Brent, Leon Lewitt, Maurie Lewitt, Mike Hackman, Andy Shapiro and Paul Bauducco all send our condolences to Phyllis, Anjela and Jennifer and your entire family.
