Obituary of Judy, Bernice Lorene (Clark) Williams

JUDY, Bernice Lorene (Clark) Williams Bernice Lorene (Clark) Williams Judy passed away in Dallas, Texas on August 29, 2015. She was born on February 27, 1927 in Greenville, Texas, where her father, Andrew Rayford Clark, owned Clark's Drug Store and her mother, Merna Bible Clark, had been on the Music Faculty of nearby Burleson College. After the birth of her bother, Rayford William (Bill), in 1928, the family moved to Dallas and New Orleans, then settled in San Antonio, where her father founded the Texas Phamacal Company ( which later became a subsidiary of Warner-Lambert and Pfizer Drug Companies.) In 1944, she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio, where she had enjoyed art classes and being a member of the famed Lasso Drill Team and the Senior Cadet Corp. She then attended Ward-Belmont Girls College in Nashville, Tennessee before returning to Texas to earn her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education form the University of Texas (Austin), where she was a member of the Delta Gamma Fraternity and the Association for Childhood Education. Following graduation she taught at Lamar Elementary School in the San Antonio ISD. In 1950 she married Rev. George B. Williams, Jr., who was the Youth Minister at First Presbyterian Church in San Antonio. After their marriage, she joined him in his pastorates at Harlandale Presbyterian Church in Havelock, North Carolina, which he organized in 1953, fourteen months before his death in 1955. She then returned to San Antonio with her two young sons and continued her teaching career at Woodridge Elementary School in the Alamo Heights ISD. In 1967 she married Dr. Chester Jack Judy, a Research Psychologist with the U.S. Air Force stationed at Lackland AFB in San Antonio. Ten years later, they moved to Austin, where they lived for 27 years. During that time, "Bunny", as she was known from her college days on, was active in the P.E.O. Sisterhood, a philanthropic organization offering educational opportunities for women. She also volunteered at St. David's Hospital, Barton Mills Elementary School Library and with the Preschool Vision Screening Program of Delta Gamma and was an active member of University Presbyterian Church. She and Jack traveled extensively in the United States and in Europe during their Austin years. In 2003 they moved to Dallas and lived in Edgemere Retirement Community, where Jack passed away in 2010. In Dallas, she continued her involvement in P.E.O. and Delta Gamma and was a faithful member of Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and her two husbands. She is survived by her sons, George Terrell (Terry) Williams (Grapevine) and John Lawrence (Larry) Williams (Austin); step-son Deral Richard Judy (Dallas); grandchildren Bradley Williams (Dallas); Scott Williams (Austin); Courtney Williams (Austin); Nicholas and Amber Williams (Austin): great-grandchildren Hunt and Judd Williams (Dallas): sister-in-law Louise H. Clark (Houston) and nieces Karen Clark Tinsley (Dallas) and Deborah Clark Perrin (Houston). Memorial Service will be Friday, September 4, 2015  at 2:30 pm at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Chapel, 9800 Preston Road, Dallas, TX 75230.
