Obituary of Wilpitz, Ruth Kellum

On February 4th, 1933, Rev. Clarence Kellum and his wife, Grace, welcomed a precious baby girl into the world.  They gave her the name, Ruth. The name, Ruth, in Hebrew means companion, friend, and vision of  beauty. From the first day of her life until God took her home on September 5th, 2015, she has lived up to her name.  Ruth was truly a beautiful person on the inside and outside. She was sensitive to the Lord from an early age and as an elementary age girl, she would go with her preacher father and play the piano at the churches he started and pastored all around the Pensacola, Florida area. As she grew she became the “vision of beauty” in the eyes of guys all over Pensacola, but none of them captured her affections until a young, handsome Navy Aviator named Wayne Wilpitz walked into her life. It wasn’t long before they fell in love and began a love story that they have written together for the last 59 years. In the first seven years of their marriage, they had four children, Louis, Scott, Kimberly and Carol. Then five years later Todd was born. This happy family with their non-stop energy kept Ruth busy making a home wherever the military stationed them and later wherever Wayne’s job would lead them. Finally they settled in Dallas permanently in 1971.  Ruth was a stay at home mom until they recognized the need to put the children in a private Christian school.  So Ruth went to work, first with the City of Dallas and then for many years on the staff of First Baptist Church of Dallas in the media ministry. Ruth served the Lord Jesus in many ways over her 82 years in this world.  She loved children and pointed thousands of them to Jesus as a department director in the primary division of FBC Dallas for 38 years. She was constantly talking to people about Jesus and would often be heard sharing Christ with someone in a check out line at the grocery store, a waiter at the restaurant, the beauty shop or a neighbor down the street.  The generosity of her life impacted her family, her friends, strangers, her church and ministries all over the country and world. Her compassion, inner beauty and hilarious personality were magnetic. Everyone wanted to be around Ruth, whether it was her children or grandchildren who wanted to always be at their home, the members from the mission churches in which she served, the members of the special needs ministry who adored her, or total strangers who would tell her their life story in the first five minutes they were with her.  Everyone saw the beauty of her life and loved her. She had the ability to make everyone feel special. Although people loved to be around her, that did not mean that Ruth was gullible, naive or permissive. On the contrary, Ruth was incredibly discerning and wise; a woman of strong convictions. She was a velvet anvil; loving, compassionate and sweet, but also tough as iron. She was high spirited, strong willed and had an indomitable perseverance that enabled her to walk  through the troubles of this life in great victory and triumph.  Ruth Kellum Wilpitz truly “fought a good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith.” Now there is laid up for her the crown of righteousness which the Lord will award to her on that Day.  Today her 5 children, 12 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren “arise and call her blessed; her husband also and he praises her: Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” Ruth was a beautiful woman who lived an extraordinary life and great shall be her reward. Please send the family condolences and share memories on this website.

Wayne and family, so very sorry to learn of your loss. Wayne, you were one of the first people I ever knew. You were one of my Quintana heroes. I know that Ruth is in Paradise. May God comfort you all during this difficult time.
