Obituary of
Chapman Sr., Alvin Earl
Alvin Earl (Al) Chapman, Sr., age 82, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 12, 2015, at the Collinwood Memory Care facility in Plano, TX. Al was born June 6, 1933, in Letot, TX, to Harold Marvin Chapman and Willie Mae Frazier Chapman.
He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Ruth Bernice Peacock, Mary Louise Hitchcock, and Lillian Dale James, and brothers Norman and Dhoil.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kay, sister Billie Nicholson, sons Al Jr. (Judi) and Tim (Debi), step-daughters Nancy Lorimer (Dan), Sue Bacon (Scott), Jan Bonnette (Ron), Ann Wade (Terry), and Dian Huber (Lance), 29 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, with an additional four soon to be born, and a wealth of extended family and friends.
Al attended Carrollton High School where he played football and forged life-long friendships. After serving four years in the U.S. Air Force, Al became an airplane mechanic at Braniff Airlines working there for 20 years, and afterwards he spent many years as an auto mechanic. Following retirement, Al and Kay spent 12 years in mission work serving The Lord through YWAM, giving of their time and skills at Christian camps and churches throughout the country. Al loved cooking…being known for his Texas-size breakfasts, enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and grandchildren, was skilled in mechanics, building, and fixing anything needing repairs.
Visitation is scheduled Monday, November 16th from 6:00-8:00 pm, and Tuesday, November 17th from 9:00-11:00 am, followed by a Service officiated by Tim Chapman, with all being held at the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, TX. A private burial is scheduled at the DFW National Cemetery on Wednesday, November 18th. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are made to the Alzheimer’s Assn. or charity of your choice.
