Obituary of Walker, Sherrie Louise (Raffield)

Sherrie Louise Walker was born Sherrie Louise Raffield on February 3, 1962 while on vacation in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Her early childhood was lived out in Mesquite, Texas. Sherrie's parents were Shirley and George Raffield, Sr.

She married Mark Prine in 1980 and was divorced in 1994. She married Steve Walker in 1997 and was married to him until her death on November 24, 2015.

Sherrie received an Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Northwood University in 1996. She also received an Associate in Arts and Sciences degree from Eastfield Community College in 1994. Sherrie worked for Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas in the public relations department from 1982 until 1993, then worked for U.S. Oncology as a practice administrator until she was no longer able to work.

Sherrie's biggest frustration in the later years was the inability to form words due to her illness. But she loved music and especially loved to hear her daughter sing to her.

Sherrie is survived by husband Steve Walker of Rowlett, Texas, children Adam and Cody Prine, and Jeremy and Jamie Walker. She has two grandchildren, Brandon Prine and Mallory Prine. Her sister is Sheryl Obermiller of Flagstaff, Arizona. Her nephew, Nicholas Zanolini also lives in Flagstaff.

Sherrie was predeceased by her father George Raffield Sr., her brother Officer George Raffield, Jr. (affectionately known as "Tiger"), her mom Shirley Christine and her stepfather Don T. Moore, Sr.

Sherrie was diagnosed in 2001 with Huntington's Disease, a severe nervous system disorder. She lived the final years of her life in The Village at Richardson nursing home. She passed away in the hospital with her children and other loved ones at her bedside.

The family wishes to thank the many friends and family that helped with the children, and with Sherrie herself, as her disease progressed. We cannot possibly name all the people who have helped, but we especially wish to thank Steve's parents, Pat and Ed Walker, and Jan Walters and Gail Sullivan, who gave much of their time and resources, and still do, and without whom our journey would have been much more difficult. Many from First Presbyterian Church of Garland helped out by watching the kids, providing meals and helping in other ways. We offer prayers of thanks to all who helped along the way.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 5 at 2pm. The service will be at First Presbyterian Church of Garland which is located at 930 W Avenue B, Garland, TX 75040.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the GoFundMe account of Sherrie's daughter Jamie. This fund is to raise money to help Jamie make a trip to the U.K. with the Children's Chorus of Greater Dallas during the summer of 2016. The fund may be accessed online at www.gofundme.com/jamieuk.
