Westsmith, Gertrude (Gay) A.
Gertrude A. Westsmith aka Gay Westsmith, born in Los Angeles, California on November 8th 1936, passed away peacefully in Dallas, Texas on February 5th 2016 at the age of 79 in an assisted living establishment. Gertrude, as she recently requested being called, graduated from Highland Park High school in 1954 and attended Texas State College for Women until 1956.Ā Gertrude took off for a summer to visit Europe on her own and then spent a few months in Guatemala, South America.Ā The family moved to Santa Barbara where she helped support the family by working at the Santa Barbara National Bank as a bookkeeper before she entered the University of California which resulted in her graduating Summa-Cum-Laude and finally getting her MBA in Accounting in 1963. After graduation she went to work for Peat, Marwick, and Mitchell, and Co. in New York City where she performed auditing services including the World Fair and received her CPA license.Ā Four years later she felt God calling her to apply for a controller position with Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship in Toronto, Canada where she worked for seven years.Ā She left Canada for Dallas, Texas where she hired on with Phillips Information Systems. After a few years she went to work for Sears in the Accounting Department. She stayed for 10 years and finally retired in 2001. The following year she moved to Gainesville, Texas where she spent many years making a lot of friends.Ā Finally unable to live independently she moved back to Dallas, Texas in 2012 to reside in the assisted living establishment where she was called to heaven. She is survived by her brother, Richard Westsmith and her two sisters, Sarah Mayes and Nancy Westsmith. Memorial Service will be on Tuesday February 16th at 10:00 AM at the North Dallas Funeral Home at 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas followed by the burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery at 10977 Harry Hines Blvd in Dallas. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to DayStar Television Network. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
