McMillian, Kathryn Morrow "Mama Kay"

Kathryn Morrow “Mama Kay” McMillian passed away peacefully on April 6, 2016 at the age of 86 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on July 6, 1929 in Maud, Texas.   She married Gene McMillian on July 12, 1946.  They were married 53 years before his death in 1998.  They moved to the Carrollton area in the late 50s.

She was a dedicated wife and mother.  Her two children blessed her with 5 grandchildren.  She enjoyed watching them play baseball, soccer, softball, and gymnastics and never missed a dance recital.  Her Sunday dinners were always enjoyed by the family and are still precious memories.  Who would have known that her love could be any greater until she became a great grandmother.  She was at the birth of each of her 9 great grandchildren.  They were all truly her pride and joy and everyone she met knew it.  She loved to read to them, cook with them, and love on them.  These are some of their greatest memories.

Not only did she dedicate herself to her own children but hundreds of children during her 31 years at First Baptist Carrollton Weekday Preschool. She was the welcoming smile and tender touch to not only the children in her class but the tearful mothers leaving their children for the first time.  She was a member of First Baptist Church Carrollton and her strong faith was apparent until the very end. She loved her church and her many friends.

She is survived by her children Sherry Bernal and husband Raul of Carrollton, Larry McMillian of The Colony, her grandchildren Robert Bernal and his two daughters Haley and Hope, Elena Miller and husband Kevin and their sons Nathan and Ben, Amy Boyd and husband Roger, Scott McMillian and wife Melissa and their two daughters Charlotte and Claire, Amber McMillian and her three children Nicolas, Alexis and Cruz, her sister Ramona Fergason of Texarkana and several nieces and nephews.

Family visitation will be Sunday, April 10, from 2 to 4 in the Brooks Family Chapel at North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234.

Memorial Services will be on Monday, April 11, at 2:30 pm in the Worship Center of First Baptist Carrollton, 2400 N. Josey Lane, Carrollton, Texas 75006.   There will be a private family burial

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Carrollton – Kathryn McMillian Memorial Fund at fbcc.org/give. Contributions will be used by the Weekday Preschool to establish the Ms. Kathryn’s Discover Room for Children.

Her family would like to think all the staff at Remarkable Health Care at Prestonwood for their support and love for our Mama Kay during this difficult time. They went above and beyond in every way.  Also the Hospice Plus nurses who cared for her to the very end were a gift from God.  Thank you Brandi, Ollie and Theresa.
