“I highly recommend this funeral home and crematorium; when I had to make and pay for my brother’s arrangements across state lines, Evelyn Montonya, in particular, demonstrated both compassion and professionalism and made a very sad and difficult situation much easier. Many thanks.”

Obituary of
Antonson, Hugh James
“Nobody calls me Hughie,” was a byword for the imposing athlete Hugh James Antonson. Except for family, they didn’t. Hugh was born April 3, 1944 in Seattle to Harold Joseph Antonson and Marguerite Elizabeth Keenan. He was the youngest child (Harold Hugh, George Alfred and Carol Marie). He attended high school in Washington at Saint Martin’s in Lacey then college at Columbia Basin in Pasco. He earned All American honors and Hall of Fame at Saint Martin’s. He attended Seattle University before entering the business world. In 1964 he married Marjorie Dianne Patterson in Pasco. They had three daughters, Diana Lynne, Laura Jill and Lisa Marie. There are 6 grandchildren (Christa Nicole, Joshua Irel, Annatosia Dianna, Jessica Lynne, Angeline Dianne and Laura Denali) and 3 greatgrandchildren (Joshua James, David Lee and Adam Michael). Most of them live in the Tri-cities area. In 1973 he married Catherine Steinberg in Edmonds. They moved to Texas and had Angela Rose and Hugh James Jr. The children grew up in Texas, Angela is still in Dallas. HJ has a son Alexander James. He was the top sales manager at Ryder in Texas for years and an executive at Welco Mill in Washington until they closed the plant. He remained friends with many of his associates after he retired. His untimely death April 23, 2016 will be mourned by a huge number of family, business and sports friends. He was popular and loved! There will be a life celebration in his honor in Dallas in September and in Richland in October. The dates are to be determined. Donations are not solicited, but Hugh’s favorite would have been Saint Martin’s University Athletic Foundation.
