Obituary of Seto, George

On the evening of October 8, 2016, George Seto passed away from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.  George was cared for the last 6 years by his niece, Linda Seto in Irving, Texas and was being visited and comforted by family members at the time of his passing.  George was 92 years old. George Seto was born on December 27, 1923.  He worked at Stanford University as a Safety and Health Specialist. George and his family were disrupted from World War II when they were placed into a Japanese concentration camp in California. George never married and throughout his entire life, generously provided financial assistance to his family and relatives who were in need.  George was meticulously organized, enjoyed playing Bridge, and told stories from his past that taught life lessons.  George will be remembered for his generosity and kindness. George is survived by his brother, Frank Seto (spouse Gail Seto); his sister, Teru Ishihara; his nieces, Nancy Honda, Amie Lambert, Linda Seto, Carol Morin, and James Morita. George’s passing was preceded by his mom, Yasu Ishii Seto; father, Harukichi Seto; brother, Suekichi Suey Seto; and sister, Lily Morita. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.

George & I worked at Stanford together. In fact, he was an incredible mentor. Though he had an unassuming presence, he had an uncanny way of getting things done. He was well respected for his abilities and the fact that he really cared for people and providing quality, consistent work. George, thanks for everything you’ve done and for helping me grow! Rest In Peace.

I always enjoyed seeing “Uncle George” (he let us call him that, too) at family gatherings at Scott and Amie’s house. He was always such a pleasure to talk to and just sit with. We always had some good Cal vs. Stanford banter. Just this once for you George I can “Go Stanford Cardinal!”

    Dear Uncle George,
I will always remember how you were such a wonderful brother to our mom, Lily, and a super uncle and father figure to me, Nan and Jim. You were generous in so many ways — always willing to offer a helping hand — helping us move, paint, driving mom to get groceries. Thank you for sharing our important life moments with us — holidays, graduations, weddings, the birth of our kids, attending our kids school events, birthday parties, and the many vacation trips we took. You were quiet, witty, even tempered, and had a wonderful sense of humor. You offered valuable advice,… I have missed you over the years but have thought of you often. I’ve enjoyed seeing the photos and video clips of you in Dallas that Linda shared with us – you looked so happy.

Thank you, Uncle George, for sharing your life with us. May you rest in peace and happiness. Please say Hi to Mom and Scott for me.

    Love, Amie

    Hey Uncle George,

Thank-you for being such a wonderful Uncle.
If it weren’t for you who knows what life would have been like for my sisters and I growing up without a father.

Thanks for the trips to Disneyland, taking us to visit other relatives as Mom didn’t own a car.
You were quiet. So am I. Mom always said Your Uncle George and Uncle Frank are so smart. I think she was trying to tell me I could be smart too.

Bless her and you. I ain’t that smart, but I thank God for you helping us all.

    Love,

    Jim

    p.s. thanks cousin Linda!
