Tallent, Clara Lee

-

Clara Lee Tallent, a long time resident of Farmers Branch, passed away February 7, 2017.  Clara was born March 27, 1928 in Oenaville, Texas. The daughter of Lee and Clara Bruggman, she was one of three children including brothers, Robert Bruggman and Vernon “Pete” Bruggman. Raised on a farm, “Tootie” drove tractors, picked cotton, was her high school drum majorette and state basketball finalist. We will always remember her home-made baked goods, including her chocolate pies (that got rave reviews from all). Clara married William Arnold “Bill” Tallent on May 4, 1949 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Cyclone, Texas. They moved to Dallas in 1949, to Fort Worth in 1953, and to Farmers Branch in 1961 where her neighbors became lifelong friends. They were members of Mary Immaculate Catholic Church.

She was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan and those were some of the best times for she and Bill.  She loved red cardinals and flowers.   She loved to do yard work, play dominoes, and dance at the Senior Center which she did well into her eighties.   She traveled to 48 states and internationally making many memories along the way.

Clara was a mother, a grandmother, but also a friend and mother to many. She truly had the gift of listening.

Survivors included daughter, Becky Higgins and husband Phil; daughter, Debbie Smith and husband, Tim; grandchildren, Elaine Higgins Smith and husband, Justin,   Lauren Roberts and husband, Paul, and Kevin Smith and fiancée, Katie Oppenheim of Baltimore; sister-in-law, Lucille Bruggman of Temple, Texas; brother-in-law,  Al Jensen of Enid, Oklahoma; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

We want to thank all the friends who have been with her throughout the years. A special thank you to the caregivers at Treemont nursing and rehab facility during her time there the last few months.

The family will be receiving visitors on Friday, February 10 from 1:00 to 7:00 pm at  the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, February 11 at 12 noon in the North Chapel at Calvary Hill Cemetary, 3235 Lombardy Lane, Dallas, Texas 75225 with Father Michael Forge as Celebrant. Interment will follow.

Flowers are appreciated or donations to National Parkinson Foundation in Clara’s Memory.

Sorry to hear about the loss of Clara. She was a very lovely person. She and my Mom always loved to chat. She was so nice to me at the time of my Mother’s passing. May she rest in peace.

I can’t remember a time when seeing Tootie that she did not have a smile on her face. She was a loving and caring person and will be missed by many. She made family gatherings special. I will never forget the trips to Dallas to she her and Bill. They seemed so magical. Being a farm girl the city was always exciting to me. May God bless Tootie and keep her in his care.

Donna & Jim Snider says:

Clara was a woman full of love. Her life was one of service to others whether it was through her beloved church, family, friends or strangers. Actually she never met a stranger who didn’t somehow become a part of her life.

Clara raised two lovely daughters (along with her son-in-laws) and three darling grandchildren (and their spouses) who were the light of her life — and she did a wonderful job, as no one could be more delightful than her heirs.

God bless you Clara Lee Tallent; you will be missed.
