Obituary of Clark, Weldon Oliver (Wes)

Weldon Oliver (Wes) Clark, long-time resident of Dallas, Texas, was born November 8, 1935, at Brooke Army Hospital, San Antonio, Texas, and departed this life peacefully on February 15, 2017, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 81.

He was the son of Oliver and Anna (Anglin) Clark and was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Brenda. Survivors include his son, Jon Preston Clark, of Dallas; his brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Janice Clark of New Braunfels; and two nephews and their families.

Weldon was raised in San Antonio and graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1953.  He excelled in sports in high school participating in football, baseball and track. He was named an All-District running back, as well as an All-District shortstop. He served his country by joining the U. S. Army and also served in the National Guard.

In 1955, Weldon married Helen Horan in San Antonio, Texas. After receiving his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas in Austin in 1961, they moved to Dallas, where Weldon went to work for Collins Radio, which later became Rockwell International. He considered this one of the highlights of his life as this was when Rockwell was working with NASA on the Space Program. Weldon always said he helped put “man” on the moon.

Even as a teenager, Weldon was an avid student of history and he started collecting and trading “things”, from old junk cars to books to guns and other military antiques. Ultimately this led him to form his own business, Classic Cars, through which he bought, sold, and restored classic, antique, and special interest automobiles. This business became the means which enabled him to pursue his other true interest – saving and preserving historical artifacts, primarily of the Republic of Texas, Texas, Mexico and the Southwest.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

The Clark Family will be receiving visitors from 11:00 to 2:00 pm on Friday, February 24, 2017 in the Brooks Family Chapel of the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234.  Graveside Service will be at 3:00 pm at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 10977 Harry Hines Blvd, Dallas, Texas 75220.

Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
