Obituary of Jordan, Kimberly Broshous

Kimberly Broshous Jordan, 61, of Mesquite, Texas, died at home on February 17, 2017 after a brief battle with cancer. Kim exemplified both a giving and a fulfilled life. Her husband, her sons and granddaughter, her parents, and her brothers remained by her side for several days before she died. And shortly before her death Kim reiterated her life’s advice “to do something fun every day.” She quietly passed away to the sounds of “You Are My Sunshine”. Kim dedicated her career to the children of Mesquite, Texas. For over twenty-five years, she improved the lives of hundreds of children as a speech therapist at Ruby Shaw Elementary School. Kim received her Bachelor’s Degree (1977) and her Master’s Degree (1978) from Illinois State University. Like most overworked teachers, Kim’s dedication extended not only to her students, but also to Shaw Elementary’s year book, PTA, Destination Imagination, a creative team challenge program, and eco-friendly Project Green Team, which she led over ten years. Kim recently received WFAA’s Project Green Eco-Educators Award. She received the prestigious Mesquite ISD Apple Corps Designation for excellence in teaching in 2004. Kim was born in Des Moines, Iowa in 1955. She is survived by her husband of almost forty years, Leo John Jordan, her wonderful sons Patrick and John Andrew, and her exceptional granddaughter Keeley. Kim’s parents Norm and Judy Broshous survive her as do her brothers, Mike (Jane) Broshous, and family (Wyatt, Maddie, and Morgan), David (Katie) Broshous and family (William, Norman, and James), and Steve Broshous. Kim is also survived by her father-in-law, Leo J. Jordan (Carla Temple), her mother-in-law, Ann Scott Jordan, brother-in-law Mike (Patty) Jordan, and their daughter Alyson (Steve), sister-in-law Terri Jordan-Lantz (Doug), and their three lovely and lively nieces (Bridget, Tess, and Meg). Brother-in-law Paul Jordan predeceased Kim, but his children Sydney and Cale (Marquetta) survive. A celebration of life and mass of Christian burial will begin at noon on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Our Lady of Divine Mercy Catholic Community, 1585 East Cartwright Road (at Mesquite Valley Road), Mesquite, Texas. Following mass, the celebration will continue from 3pm to 6pm at The Gathering at Corner Theatre, 214 W. Davis, Mesquite. Mass will be celebrated by Msgr. John W. Jordan of the Diocese of Scranton, Pennsylvania, who married Kim and Leo in August 1979. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.

This is very late in acknowledging Kim’s passing. Forgive me. I worked with Kim in Champain for several years as her assistant teacher at Champaign child development. She was such a great person to work with and we shared many a laugh. I’m so sorry to learn she died so young. My sincere condolences to Leo and her sons.

Patrick and your whole family. I just heard, and I am so so heartbroken. There are no words to express the sorrow that I feel for your family today and always. Kim (your mom) was a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. I will never forget her and hold her and you all close to my heart and in my prayers that you may find some peace in the days and years to come. You were blessed to have her in your lives. May god bless each of you.

Kim’s family, I cannot tell you how shocked and sad I was to learn of Kim’s passing. I shared some special times with her as a child and am thankful we saw each other a few years ago. I am so sorry. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. We were related as well as friends and memories of grandma Laura , the fair, and her baby brothers are in my thoughts. Thinking of you Judy and Norm.
