Just learned of Ron’s passing. I knew Ron in high school, later ran into him at Mercer, and later still worked with him at Western Electric in Norcross, GA. We lunched, played tennis, had a few brews and he even worked on my TV and air conditioning. Great guy. Will miss him.

I am Ron Ogden’s sister. We grew up in Macon, GA, in a large family of 8 children. I was the youngest, Ron, or Roney as we called him at home, was my big brother. He was a man of many talents: he could fix anything that was broken, especially electronic things like radios, tv’s, and kitchen appliances, as well vehicles, like bikes and later cars.It seemed like magic the way he could just look at a motor, and make it work by fiddling with it!He certainly kept our household running because things broke often with so many people in the house. He loved all of our dogs, a long line of which were ever present in our family. And I especially remember that he loved Christmas and decorating the tree, which he would cut down in the woods and bring home. He was the best big brother to me, always interested in what I liked to do and what I had to say. That’s a big deal to a little sister!
He joined the US Navy after High School and was assigned to a submarine in the Mediterranean. So far away and so exotic. When he returned home in his Navy blues, I was amazed that he had transformed into grown up man! But, ever the kind-hearted brother, he remembered his sister with a lovely gold bracelet which he had bought for me in Barcelona. I still have it and wear it often. Ron was self motivated and after the Navy, he attended Mercer University, and later Georgia Tech, earning Bachelor of Science and Electrical Engineering degrees. Later he would earn further degrees. His innate talents would grow and blossom to become the skills of his life’s work. I am proud to have known and loved my brother. He was an athlete, an outstanding scholar, an astute businessman, and a kind and loving human being. He was also a great truth teller. No beating around the bush with him. He was honest and straightforward with his understanding of the world. My admiration for him, his world view, his ambition to succeed, and his bravery to fight for causes he believed in, is great. He was unique in his compassion and in his ability to get things accomplished. I will miss him for all his attributes, but most of all, I will miss his intense brown eyes and his big,kind heart.
