Obituary of Jones, Bertie Marie (Lantrip)

Bertie Marie Jones, age 95, passed away peacefully at Presbyterian Village North Skilled Nursing Center in Dallas, Texas on February 26, 2017. She was born in Daingerfield, Texas on October 4, 1921 to Emsley Berty Lantrip and Lola Beatrice Hare Lantrip. She moved to Van, Texas at age 6 in 1928 and lived there with her parents and sisters Sarah, Frances and Peggy and attended Van schools.  She graduated as Valedictorian from Van High School in 1938 and worked in journalism and the insurance field in East Texas.  She met the love of her life, Charles Ray Jones, a Van teacher and coach, and married him August 29, 1942.  They raised their family in Van but moved to Lubbock in 1960. Charles continued his career as a professor at Texas Tech University and she worked as the Office Manager for the South Plains Guidance Center.  In 1975 she and Charles moved to Dallas, Texas where he became Assistant Director of Special Education for the Dallas Schools and she did what she loved best—being a wonderful cook, homemaker, family organizer and grandmother.  She was a wonderful Christian person and active member of Van Methodist Church, First Methodist Church in Lubbock and Walnut Hill Methodist Church in Dallas. She was very involved in all her church activities including teaching, serving on committees and boards and even sponsoring a young adults Sunday school class. She loved to sew and cook and share time with family. She is survived by her son, Dr. Michael Jones and wife, Becky of Dallas; her daughter Sharon King and husband Curtis of Sacramento, California; Grandchildren: Robert Jones, Amanda Jones, Steven King and Kristin King; Sister Peggy Williams of Rowlett; Sister-in-law Anne Ballew of Dallas, and many wonderful nieces and nephews and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at the Reverend Blair and Cyndy Monie Chapel at Presbyterian Village North, 8600 Skyline Drive, Dallas, TX 75243 on March 18 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Charles and Bertie Jones Memorial Fund at North Dallas Shared Ministries, 2875 Merrell Road, Dallas, Texas 75229. A Special thanks goes to the wonderful staff at Presbyterian Village North for the loving care they helped provide to her for the last several years. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.

What a lovely lady she was! I remember when she was Mr. Jones’s secretary in the Van grade school, and a neighbor. Thinking of you, Mike and Sharon, at this time.
