Obituary of Byrd, Robert Lester

Robert "Bob" Lester Byrd of Flower Mound, Texas,Ā at the age of 82, passed away from this world into his Savior's arms on Wednesday, May 3, 2017. He was born in Amarillo, Texas on January 26, 1935, the son of Lester Lee Byrd and Myrtle Willena Wilkinson. He graduated from Amarillo High School and received a scholarship to college in Kansas to play baseball, a sport that was a lifetime passion. Bob served in the United States Army for four years and was stationed at Camp Drake, Japan. He was awarded the Armed Forces Far East and Japanese Service Medals. Bob was married almost twenty-five years to Shirley Vonne Byrd and resided in Richardson, Texas.Ā  He was an employee of Texas Instruments and retired in 1997.Ā  In his retirement years, he enjoyed traveling, dancing, participating in activities at his church, First Baptist Church of Richardson, and Senior Citizen Centers and spending time with his family. He is survived by his step-daughter Pam Fennell and her husband Thomas Fennell of Plano, Texas; a special friend and caregiver Joyce Deaver of Flower Mound, Texas and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Myrtle Byrd of Amarillo, Texas; his sister, Wilena Lee "Billie" Byrd Rhoades of Amarillo, Texas; his wife, Shirley Vonne Byrd of Richardson, Texas; and his three step-sons, Marlon McLaughlin, Joe McLaughlin and Steve McLaughlin. The family will be accepting visitors on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 from 9:30 to 11:30 am in the Brooks Family Chapel of the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234. Celebration of Life will begin at 11:30 am in the chapel. Graveside services, with military honors, will be at 2:30 pm at DFW National Cemetery at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211.
