Obituary of Wortham, Natalie Margaret "Peggy" (Holbert)

Natalie Margaret “Peggy” (Holbert) Wortham peacefully departed this life Sunday, June 11, two days after celebrating her 70th birthday. On both occasions, she was lovingly surrounded by family, friends as well as the kind caregivers of Medical City Dallas. Three longtime friends, Loraine Ouellette, Sandra Trostel and Bonnie Kiefel were constant companions and advocates during her hospitalization. Peggy, a recent resident of Frisco, Texas, was born in Dallas, Texas on June 9, 1947, and graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1965. She received her degree from Texas A&M at Commerce, formerly East Texas State University and was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. Peggy began her work life as a physical education teacher in Dallas, where she taught for several years. In 1978, she became an employee of American Airlines and enjoyed a 34-year career, holding various positions during her years of service. She retired in 2012 and followed her passion for sports to become a tour guide at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. Peggy’s love for sports was lifelong. As a youngster, she was often a better baseball player than most of her male counterparts. Whatever the season, she followed her favorite teams in person and on radio and television, often communicating via text with her play-by-play sports buddies. She also enjoyed target shooting and was a go-to for friends and relatives on matters of technology and gadgets electronic. Peggy made friends easily and was a loyal, thoughtful friend. She possessed a kind, fun-loving spirit and keen sense of humor which drew others to her.  Co-workers, too, loved the joy and light she brought to the workplace. Friendships and family were important to Peggy and she continually reached out and nurtured those relationships. Natalie Margaret is preceded in death by her parents Natalie and Webb Holbert, and also her brother Webb Holbert. She is survived by her son Kyle Wortham and wife Shawna, and three grandchildren, Callie, Audrey and Chance of Mineral Wells. Also surviving Peggy is her sister, Ann Soutter of Dallas, a niece Leigh Soutter of California, and two nephews Michael Soutter of Dallas, and Christopher Holbert of Fort Worth, as well as a multitude of loving friends whom she cherished throughout her life. Peggy’s loyal, canine companion, Abby, will certainly miss her and is being well-cared for in a familiar setting. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:30 am on Thursday, June 15, 2017 in the Brooks Family Chapel of the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234. The Celebration of Life Service will begin at 11:30 am immediately following the visitation. Please join us for a reception after the service. A private burial will follow at Restland Memorial Park Cemetery, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Peggy’s name to The American Cancer Society by visiting www.cancer.org or SPCA of Texas at www.spca.org. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.

Peggy was so much more than a co-worker and neighbor. A little over 31 years ago she and Loraine were kind enough to host Mike and my wedding. We reconnected after years of drifting apart and it was great catching up. She was so proud of Kyle!!! She was special! Family and friends please take comfort from all the wonderful memories!!

Ann, I am so sorry to hear about Peggy. I’ve kept up with her, but didn’t realize that she was ill. I know you must be devastated! We loved having Peggy as a sister in Gamma Phi Beta! She was a terrific member and we all loved her. I know she is ecstatic being with Webb and your parents again. I can’t be with you today, but please know that I will be praying for the family. I love our sweet Peggy!

I have known Peggy since I met her in 1978 when she was in training for AA. I have not seen her in many years, and her passing comes as a complete surprise; I had no idea she was ill. She is loved by so many and will be remembered by all for her smile and so many other things. Rest in peace dear Peggy.

A childhood friend and reconnected as adults. What joy it gave me to help you transition to your new “safe” dream home. Much laughter did we share decorating Oyster Bay and sharing our fine dining experiences at Chic Fil A and Whataburger. I miss you dearly and cant believe you are gone. Go Rangers. Go Cowboys.

Peggy, Terry and our 3 dachshunds miss you and Abby. We really enjoyed being your neighbor in Frisco Lakes, and also the visits we had “over” the fence in the backyard while all the dogs played. We are glad Abby has a wonderful new home and are confident that you have been taken into His arms and become a new angel looking down on us from above.

My dear friend Peggy, we had just become next door neighbors and got attached really fast. It’s hard to believe you’re gone–seems we were just having our chats over the fence while sweet Abby ran in the yard and cried for me to reach through and pet her. I’ll never forget both of you and hold onto God’s promise that we will meet again. My deepest sympathy goes out to your friends and family-I love you Peggy
