Obituary of McKinzie, Evelyn Faye (Mitchell)

Evelyn Faye Mitchell McKinzie, 97, passed away peacefully of natural causes at home on October 31, 2017. Evelyn was born on May 22, 1920 at home in Limestone County, Alabama to Luke and Octa Mitchell. She was the ninth of eleven children, including her twin brother. Evelyn was married on May 14, 1946 to William (Mac) McKinzie in Birmingham, Alabama. Being married to a navy pilot meant living in many different states and countries. They were stationed in Texas, Florida, Spain, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Guantanamo Bay, and Virginia. When Mac retired in 1969, they intended to stay a couple of years in Kingsville before permanently moving to Pensacola; but eventually decided to remain in Kingsville. Mac passed away in 1996. Evelyn moved to Dallas in 2007. She missed her Kingsville friends very much but made new friends during the ten years she lived in Dallas. She is survived by son Bill McKinzie (Ann) of Houston and daughter Sharon Acevedo (Luis) of Dallas; her grandchildren are Paige Bellicini (Chris) of Houston, Scott McKinzie (Kristy) of Houston, Daniel Acevedo of Austin, Mitchell Acevedo of Austin, Julie McKinzie of Pismo Beach, California, and Alex McKinzie of Santa Monica, California; great grandchildren are Carson Bellicini, Connor and Caroline McKinzie, all of Houston; also surviving is her sister, Mildred Raby of Athens, Alabama along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and son, James McKinzie. Evelyn loved her family, friends, playing bridge and working her crossword puzzles. She was loved for her kindness and generosity, making friends easily wherever she lived. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Kingsville, Texas on Saturday, December 16 at 1:00 pm. Following the service will be internment at Chamberlain Cemetery. Donations may be made to the South Texas Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1210, Beeville, TX 78104.
