August 20, 1933 - January 25, 2018
JoAnn Shackelford, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, January 25, 2018.
JoAnn was born in Breckenridge, Texas, on August 20, 1933, the daughter of Byron and Goldie Hash. She became a Christian at an early age and always set a Christ-like example in her daily life. She graduated from Pampa High School and West Texas State University, where she met her husband of 61 years, Ben Shackelford. They spent the majority of their married lives in Pampa, Texas and Walters, Oklahoma, developing lasting friendships before finally ending up in the Dallas area to be near family. Teaching both 2nd grade and elementary school music, JoAnn was a born teacher with her nurturing manner. She never met a stranger, and this caring nature endeared her to her students and helped form the special bond she shared with her daughter and grandchildren. She treasured her role as ‘Nana’, cooking favorite meals and attending every concert, sporting event, and birthday party of her grandchildren, who were truly her pride and joy.
Hers was a life well-lived, devoted to faith and family, and she’s now released from her struggle with Alzheimer’s into the arms of her Heavenly Father and husband Ben. JoAnn was preceded in death by husband Ben Shackelford, and is survived by daughter and son-in-law Sharla and Bruce Davidson; and her grandchildren Daniel Davidson and Emily Davidson.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 3, 2018 in the Brooks Family Chapel of the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Dallas, Texas 75234.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Christian Academy Foundation-Middle School Project, 17001 Addison Road, Addison, Texas 75010.
