Obituary of Dolph, George Warren

George Warren Dolph, 95, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 12, 2018.  He was born in Dallas on February 12, 1923 to George Earnest Dolph and Connie Covell.  He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High.  He then attended the University of Texas at Austin where he majored in Civil Engineering.  He was a proud member of the Tejas Club and supported the UT football team all his life. His college days were interrupted by WWII.  He served in the Navy and was stationed in Guam.  He was in the Seabees (Construction Battalion) which made use of his civil engineering background. Once the war was over he made his way back to Texas and went to work in the construction industry.  He built a successful career as a manufacturer’s rep for numerous companies that sold commercial building specialties.  His customers were schools, public buildings, and city projects that needed lettering, plaques, or flag poles for their buildings. When he moved back to Dallas, he met his wife, Nancy, at a dance at White Rock Lake and they were married on May 23, 1952.  They had 64 wonderful and devoted years together.  They raised three daughters and also had four grandchildren. Twelve great-grandchildren completed their family. George and Nancy were active members of Highland Park Presbyterian Church since 1953 and he served the church in many capacities.  After retiring he was a S.C.O.R.E advisor to those starting new companies and he tutored students at Sudie Williams grade school in reading and English. He was known for his prowess at bridge and will be missed on bridge night at Presbyterian Village North. He is survived by three daughters, Emily Dolph Curioni and husband David, Laura Dolph Sasser and husband Trebes, and Connie Dolph, and his sister, Connie Strowe.   He has 4 grandchildren; Caroline Sasser Hutton and husband Trey, Trebes Sasser Jr. and wife Michelle, Elise Sasser Leiss and husband Ernst, and Campbell Sasser and wife Virginia plus twelve great grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 10:00am on Monday, July 23, 2018 in the Wynne Chapel at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, 3821 University Blvd., Dallas, Texas 75205. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in George’s memory to Highland Park Presbyterian Church. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.

“Mr George”, as his students at Literacy Instruction For Texas called him, was a beloved reading teacher for many years at LIFT. I always looked forward to seeing him doff his Stetson to bid us Good Morning. What a lovely gentleman he was.
