Bill Mitchell, known as “The General” was born July 29, 1938 in Eureka, Kansas to Perry and Louise Mitchell.   He passed away peacefully in the presence of his wife on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 after a long battle with numerous health issues. He was preceded in death by his parents Perry and Louise Mitchell. He is survived today by his wife Shirley, his sisters, Mary, Shirley, Gail and Janice. He is also survived by his four children, Judy Jones (Jimmy), Mark Mitchell (Jane), Debra Guthrie (Tom), and Lori Haverkamp. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Rebekah, Hannah, Faith, Joshua, Julie, Melissa, Jared, Matthew, Jeremy, Joe, Mitchell, Brandon and Conner. Also, he was blessed to be survived by 10 great grand children. Bill loved life. His family moved to Oswego, Kansas when he was 7 years old. He went into the Air Force when he was 17 years old and served in the Strategic Air Command. He spent his career as an international field engineer. On December 23, 1960 he married the love of his life Shirley Exum. He always referred to her as his girlfriend. Bill and Shirley showed us what real love looks like. Thanks mom for serving our dad so selflessly. Dad was blessed to have you as his wife. He loved music. He woke up every morning singing. He loved his family and friends. We will miss him. But we are happy that he is suffering no more and we long for the day that we are reunited with him again in that land where there will be no more tears. We love you Dad! “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” John 14:1-3 The family will be receiving friends and family on Friday, November 2, 2018 from 12:00 to 1:00 pm in the Brooks Family Chapel of the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234 for visitation and viewing. Celebration of Life service will begin, after the visitation, at 1:00 pm, also in the Brooks Family Chapel at the funeral home. There will be a procession from the funeral home to Rolling Oaks Memorial Center at 400 Freeport Parkway, Coppell, Texas 75019 where William will be laid to rest. Bill was a man that loved our Lord, family and country.
I truly enjoyed the telephone conversations we had. Especially when it was election time. He lit up in the presence of his precious Shirley. A true example of what love should be between a husband and wife. This love was so evident these past few years with the care that Shirley gave Bill as he struggled with his health. His children, grand
Children and great grand children meant the world to him. He was so proud of each of them. I pray that our Father continues to hold you tight as you face each day without this precious man.children
