Munzell, Mary Ellen Kenny

Mary Ellen Kenny Munzell of Plano, Texas passed away peacefully on January 2, 2019.  She was born November 21,1935 in Hartford, Connecticut to Margaret Calano Kenny and Thomas Keimy.  She is survived by her two sisters, Joan Mattes of Hartford, CT and Cynthia Kenny, of Rocky Hill, CT.  She is also survived by Joan’s four daughters and their families, and Cynthia’s two sons and their families.  Mary Ellen is predeceased by the love of her life, Christopher James Munzell with whom she shared a wonderful marriage.

Her family loved to tell the story of how they met in Buenos Aires, Argentina, when Mary Ellen was employed by the United States Embassy and Chris was in the United States Marines and stationed at the embassy. Mary Ellen enjoyed life to the fullest, flying to Saudi Arabia at the age of thirty to take a job with an oil company, something that was considered quite daring for a single woman at that time. During her years in Plano she was gifted with a circle of close and caring friends that were always there to help her in any way that they could as her health declined.

Mary Ellen’s family would like to extend their sincere thanks for the outstanding care, compassion, respect, and affection given to her by everyone at Prestonwood Court Assisted Living this past year. The family would also like to thank the staff of Silverado Hospice who guided her on her final journey.

Memorial services will be held in both Plano and Hartford at a later date.

Donations in her memory can be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 27141-5014; or Prestonwood Court Assisted Living, 7001 West Piano Parkway, Piano, Texas 75093-8867.

Mary Ellen was an important part of Seniors Active in Learning (SAIL) at Collin college. She held many positions of authority. As a fellow student, we appreciated her friendship. She made SAIL a better place because of her involvement. We will miss her. She's now with the Lord.

Mary Ellen, you were the love of my brother Chris's life. You are now together in loving embrace, after a long separation of 22 years. My love goes to you both.

Mary Ellen was such a sweet person. Sometimes we would have movie night at my house and she would sit in the recliner. She was so small we could hardly see her. If it hadn't been for movie night and/or bridge, I might never have met her. What a loss that would have been for me. I will miss her.

Up until recently, Mary Ellen was a frequent participant in our Thursday night movie group. We missed her probing questions and witty comments at the dinners that followed the movie. She will be greatly missed.
