Bendapudi, Kasi Visweswara Rao

Kasi Visweswara Rao Bendapudi, loving husband and father, passed away at home on February 17, 2019 at the age of 72.

Kasi was born on July 28, 1946 in Eluru, India. He earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Andhra University in 1968.  He moved from India to the United States in 1969, after which he received a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri at Rolla.  Kasi’s first days in the United States were marked by a near-death encounter with a speeding VW bug, which left him hospitalized for the first three months of his American experience.

Kasi subsequently worked as a structural engineer in Atlanta, where he met and married Pranut Kowinwipat in 1977. Later, the couple settled in Dallas, where together they raised two boys, Tem and Ravi.  Kasi was a dedicated husband and a wonderful father.  He also truly loved being an engineer and travelled the world for work during his many years of employment at Lockwood Greene, KBR, and Carbonyx.  Later, he focused on his consulting business and took great pleasure in mentoring a younger generation of engineers.  In both his professional and personal lives, Kasi was widely admired for his gregariousness, optimism, and positivity.  He made and maintained enduring friendships at every stage of life and enjoyed visits from his family and childhood friends from India during his final years.

Kasi was preceded in death by his parents, Sundara Ramamurthy and Chandramati Bendapudi as well as five brothers and a sister. He was the last Bendapudi of his generation.  He is survived by his wife, sons, daughter-in-law, and nieces and nephews in both India and the United States.

I just happened see this obituary. Needless to say how saddened I am to note that dearest friend Kasi is no more. We worked together in Mumbai, India and had a great time. He used to call me as his older brother. While in Mumbai, I happened to meet his eldest son for a brief time while he visited his father there. I also met his wife in Mumbai. What a great family ! I talked to Kasi when he had undergone stroke and was recovering in Dallas. He could not talk to me properly. I am really sad that he is no more.
My heart-felt sincere condolences to his wife and his sons and the rest of the surviving family memembers.

I always knew Mr. Bendapudi to be a kind and generous man, and he was always one of fathers of my childhood friends whom I most liked and respected. My thoughts are with Tem, Ravi, and their mother.

A great human being with an infectious smile on his face. A thorough family man. Highly respected for his professional capabilities.
A great friend to be with for a life time. A very good conversationist and time flies by in his presence.
Left all of us in a hurry, leaving behind a memory hard to forget in a life time.
Rest in peace, Kasi( as you are fondly called).
