Obituary of Sullivan Sr., Michael Dennis

Michael Dennis Sullivan Sr., age 76, passed away on Thursday, February 15th, 2019 in Dallas, Texas. Michael was born on February 21, 1942 to Leslie and Margaret Sullivan in Superior, Wisconsin and graduated from Johnson Senior High School in 1960 in St. Paul, Minnesota where he participated in hockey and excelled in baseball and basketball. After high school, Michael served in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge as a Corporal on August 31st, 1966. Michael was a proud father and businessman who enjoyed spending time with his family, participating in any game of skill, coaching athletics, searching for the elusive “big one” across many different lakes, and engaging in late night conversations, with coffee in hand, across a magnitude of trivial and significant topics pertinent to the day and times. Michael was a proud father who challenged his sons to be bold, resilient, strong, mentally tough and work hard. He coached youth baseball, with his teams winning numerous championships, and more importantly, he served as a mentor and father figure to many young men while teaching everyone to play the game the right way, to challenge everyone to realize their full potential, to translate lessons learned on the field to life, to win with grace and respect, and to be resilient in defeat. Michael was well versed in any game of skill and was known to occasionally take liberty with the rules. Whether he was playing cards, shooting billiards, playing basketball/baseball/softball/golf - you name the activity, he could seemingly make everything look effortless and smooth. His competitive streak extended to late night card/board games, table top hockey round-robin tournaments, and almost anything else he and his sons could imagine into a competition. In many ways, we learned more from “Papa Sull” than he could ever imagine or ever meant to teach and share. In so many ways, he was and is truly one of a kind. Michael is survived by his three sons, Patrick, Michael and Thomas Sullivan, 6 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, three sisters, Teddy Bordsen, Sheila Trumble, Pattie Johnsen and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Family and friends are invited to attend his memorial service on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at 10:00 am in the Brooks Family Chapel of the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Dallas, Texas 75234  and his interment, with military honors, at 1:15 pm at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, Texas 75211, to grieve, reminisce, and say goodbye to a legend.  May he rest in peace. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
