Dixon, Ralph Louis

Ralph Louis Dixon of Carrollton, Texas passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the age of 66.

Ralph Louis Dixon was born July 16, 1952 in Kansas City, Mo. to Frozella and Lloyd Dixon, Sr.  As a child, he lived in Denver, Colorado with his mother and siblings, before eventually returning to the Kansas City area. There, he met Diane, his wife of 44 years, in 1972. The two were married in 1975 and together raised five children.

Throughout his life, Ralph pursued various career paths but none more satisfying than entertaining people through music. Known professionally as the “Winstar Man: One Man Sings,” he was a consummate entertainer, wowing crowds with his golden, soulful voice. His repertoire spanned musical genres – from soul to country western – and he easily won over audiences with his gentle smile and energetic performances.

Ralph was generous with both his time and talent, regularly performing at charity events, weddings and other entertainment venues, in addition to mentoring young performers. Among his most noted achievements, he launched a “Kid Karaoke” program and spent more than a decade helping to cultivate new, young talent. He was passionate about teaching children to overcome their fears and helping them to find their voice.

In addition to music, Ralph was an avid tennis player. In the late 1980s, he served as an instructor with the Ashe-Bollettieri Cities Tennis program in Kansas City. After moving to Texas in 1990, he launched the first “Black Pages” telephone directory, under the leadership of Arnett French, to help increase the visibility of African American entrepreneurs.

Ralph is survived by his wife Diane Dixon, and children Thomas “TJ” Washington (Janet), Simone Washington, Ian Dixon, Eugene Dixon and Sidney Jones; his siblings Lloyd Jr., Marcus (Terri), Stephen, Leontyne “Tina” and Anita Dixon; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He will be lovingly remembered by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and a large community of dear friends.

The Dixon family would like to offer their sincerest thanks to all the family and friends who have shared their condolences, donated or contributed in other ways. A special thank you to North Texas Funerals and Cremations. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
