Obituary of McKinnon, Betty Jo

Betty McKinnon, a long-time resident of the Dallas and Farmers Branch area, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2019.

Ā 

Born in 1933 in Tennessee, she grew up on a farm in Mississippi and studied Home Economics at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas.Ā  She had great friendships from her years at Harding and treasured them all her life.Ā 

Ā 

She met her husband, Irvin McKinnon, at church in Dallas and they were married for 50 years prior to his death.Ā  She loved him dearly.

Ā 

Betty worked in food management throughout her life, both managing a cafeteria before her daughters were born, and in church activities and part time jobs once her children were grown.Ā  She loved to cook and feed friends & loved ones and was especially known for her desserts.Ā  She also worked for many years at the local Sears Service Center in accounts receivable.

Ā 

She enjoyed gardening and working in the yard and loved to walk.Ā  She also enjoyed entering sweepstakes as a hobby for several years and met some great lifelong friends through sweepstakes clubs and groups.Ā Ā  She was always active in her church and had a hug for everyone.

Ā 

Betty is preceded in death by her husband Irvin. She is survived by daughters Katherine (David) Naber and Rebecca (John) Villarreal, grandchildren Madison Villarreal and Johnathan Villarreal, brother Kenneth (LaVera) Leopard, and nieces and nephews.

The family will be receiving visitors on Monday, June 24, 2019 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Brooks Family Chapel of the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234.

Ā 

Graveside services will be on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at 10:30 am at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211.
