Obituary of
Thurman, William (Bill) Larry
William (Bill) Larry Thurman, 76, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, September 17, 2019. Bill was a gentle loving man adored by many with a great smile and contagious laugh. He was the “Talker” of the family with an abundance of stories. His trademark suspenders were known by all and snapped by most ladies he came in contact with – even complete strangers. He enjoyed playing 42 and chickenfoot; loved hunting and fishing, but mostly enjoyed having his family and friends around him for fellowship and fun.
Bill was a 47-year Master Mason of James A Smith Lodge #395 in Farmers Branch, Texas and Past Master of Rock House Lodge #417 in Hamilton, Texas. He was also a 32nd degree member of the fraternal orders of Scottish Rite and the Order of the Eastern Star.
He was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Farmers Branch and a current member of First Baptist Church in Hamilton. He was active in the Builders Sunday School Class and also other various activities within the church on a regular basis.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Myron Beery Thurman and Mary Cleo Cox West; stepmother, Dorothy Thurman; sister, Myranell Husung; and his first wife, Wynona Malcom Thurman.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Sandra C Thurman, son William M Thurman; daughters – Vanessa Thurman, Shanan Love, and Sheli & Jeff Pugach; grandchildren Brittni Moss and Ben Pugach; brother Clyde Thurman & Lorraine Babb; sisters Linda Newhall, Betty Ann & Oran Ruggles, Claudia & Ben Justus; brother-in-law Frank Husung; numerous cousins; many nieces, nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews and a wealth of friends.
The family will be receiving friends for visitation and viewing on Friday, September 20, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Brooks Family Chapel of the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234.
Celebration of Life services will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church, 13017 William Dodson Pkwy, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234.
Interment will follow at Keenan Cemetery, 2750 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234.
Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.

We’re so sad for Bill’s passing and the sorrow his family and friends feel with his passing. But, we are comforted that his close family and friends surrounded him with care and love. Bill was like a second father to Steve, and we relive many of our shared “stories” frequently. Even though we live far away, Bill has been and will continue to be close by in our minds and in our hearts.

Bill was my best friend from when I came to Texas at age 12 until now. 64 years. He was like a brother. I could write a book about the experiences we shared, good and bad, but to keep this manageable I will say only the following. Bill was the best man I have ever known. He truly loved his family, his friends and his dogs. And we all loved him back. His passing leaves a painful void in a lot of hearts.

Though I’m sad that Bill passed, I am relieved that he was surrounded by his family. He was loved by so many people. I met him when he became friends and neighbors to us in Lewisville. He and Sandy have had a special place in our hearts ever since. He was always quick with a joke, advice or praise as we grew up and he is dearly missed. I know he’s scratching Camo’s ears and smiling down on us now. Love and prayers to Sandy and his family.
