Obituary of Bacak, Henry Anthony "Hank"

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Henry “Hank” Anthony Bacak, received the gift of eternal life on Saturday, October 19, 2019.  Hank is survived by his wife Alice, son Brian Bacak and wife Laura of Highlands Ranch, CO and daughter Julie Hydock and husband Michael of Sanger, Texas; grandson Michael Hydock and granddaughter Samantha Hydock; brother James Bacak and wife Irene, brother Tom Bacak and wife Yupin; sisters Bettie Marie Opiela, Rose Ann Bacak, SSND, and Barbara Bacak, SSND; brother-in-law Roy Lee Heinrich; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Hank is predeceased by his parents, his brother John Bacak and sister in law Doris, and sister Therese Heinrich, and brother in law Jim Opiela. Hank was born in Kerrville, Texas on June 22, 1942 to John Ben Bacak and Bettie Mary Polansky.  His grandfather was a carpenter and immigrated from Czechoslovakia in the late 1800s.  Hank spent most of his early life in South Texas and was a part of a strong Catholic family as one of 8 children. He learned the value of faith, family, and hard work as well as how to play a mean game of dominos.  After spending some time in the Army, Hank started a 32 year career with IBM.  At the time he retired, Hank was the Customer Service Executive responsible for EDS and General Motors.  Not satisfied with idleness, Hank started his own handyman business and continued with that right up until the time of his death. Married to his sweetheart Alice for 53 years, they enjoyed traveling the world together and spending time with family and friends.  Hank spent his spare time tinkering around the house, golfing and fishing.  Hank had a goofy, lovable, and sometimes inappropriate, sense of humor and enjoyed being the life of the party.  He had a swing to his step and in his hips which was most pronounced when he sank a putt on the golf course or when he uttered the phrase “let’s rock it on out.”  He doted on his grandchildren and could often be sighted at his favorite hardware store with his buddy, his Boxer Cisco. Hank was known for his generosity of spirit and self. He was an outstanding father who believed in hard work and service to others. He exercised his faith through work, contributing his handyman skills to a variety of charitable causes. He placed tremendous importance on integrity and earning and keeping the trust of his handyman clients and embraced his role as a “protector” to others against slipshod work and unscrupulous scams. He excelled at out of the box thinking, and his creative craftsmanship left a mark in his clients’ homes that will last as an enduring legacy of his attention to detail and his talent. Hank was an active member at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church in Dallas, Texas, where he served in many capacities throughout the years.  He was ordained as an Elder and a Deacon in the Presbyterian Church USA. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Baylor Heart Hospital in Plano for the compassionate care Hank received over the last several years and in his final hours. Memorial service will be held on November 4 at 1:00 pm at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church in Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to either Mo-Ranch Christian Conference Center (www.moranch.org) or Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (www.pcusa.org); important missions to Hank. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.

Our prayers are for you, Alice & your family, and the rest of the Bacak family for the loss of such a great friend of mine. It was so good to see you & Hank at Woody & Lorine’s Anniversary. Hank was exceedingly honest, kind and there was no guile in him. He had lots of room in his heart for others. He was a good son. Hank is now in the very good hands of our Lord Jesus.

I worked with Hank as an SE on the EDS team. Many a time was spent in Hanks office as we worked together to bring IBM resources to bear on the EDS problem of the day. I think Hank was the last holdout on the new IBM non-smoking policy that came into vogue. His office was always filled with smoke during every meeting. It kept the meetings short and to point for us non-smokers! Hank knew how to manage people and situations with kindness and integrity. I am blessed to have known and worked with him. Rest in Peace, Hank.

I knew Hank from work and helped out on some of his handyman jobs. It was always a pleasure to see how well a job was done.
It’s been sometime since we met at the greenbelt near his house, he walking his dog while I riding my bicycle. I am sad that we will not meet on tne bike path but know he is in good hands now.

We were shocked and saddened to hear of Hanks passing. Sad also to know we will miss his memorial. He is missed dearly. Proud to work alongside Hank for containers to Malawi, where we met, and fly fishing lessons on the Blue. Such a life well lived. We still think of Hank every time we cool our home with the attic fan, made ever so easy by Hank’s out of the box thinking and hard work! A real Renaissance man.

Julie and Alice, my condolences at Hank’s passing. I have a few but important memories of you both picking me up for church when I was a teenager. I remember Hank nicknamed me “the far Jennifer.” As a parent to three children now, I know how much trouble that could have been when you’re trying to get your own family out the door
…let alone driving across town to get another kid! I’ve always appreciated the connection to faith in those years and it’s because of you guys. Love to you all.
