Obituary of Phelps, Robert Brian (Rob)

Robert Brian Phelps, 62, was born in Dallas on March 5, 1957, and passed away, at home, after a lengthy heart and lung disease on November 2, 2019.Ā  He is survived by his loving wife, Debra Kay of Lake Tawakoni and her son, Richard Rochester of Addison; his parents, Bob and Dee Phelps of Farmers Branch; his sister, Kim Holtzman and husband, Mike; nephew, Shane Mullens; niece, Shealee Greer and husband, Tony and sons, Ryder, Cash and Casen; niece, Dusty Fife and husband, James and sons, J.D. and Evan; aunts, Helen Kirby, Bess Elkins and Pat Hunt; as well as other extended family members and dear friends. Rob had a gift for being an artist.Ā  He took lessons from Etta Mae Humphries.Ā  Rob graduated from R.L. Turner in 1975.Ā  He attended Stephen F. Austin for a while, then he decided he was ready to work. Rob accepted Jesus as his Saviour at six years old and was baptized at First Baptist Church Farmers Branch.Ā  He went to Sunday School and church and participated in all the activities.Ā  He played R.A. (Royal Ambassadors) baseball and basketball then went on to play little league.Ā  He was a leftie and a great picture.Ā  We spent many hours going to his games.Ā  He loved every minute of it and so did the whole family.Ā  We have reminisced about those days and how we wished we could relive them!! Rob was a carpenter, just like Jesus. He loved building things.Ā  He traveled all over the country doing commercial finish out work.Ā  Rob owned his own company at one time.Ā  Rob built the sanctuary at First Baptist Church of Farmers Branch.Ā  You can look around and see his handiwork.Ā  What a perfect place for his memorial!Ā  He was a good-natured guy, always ready to help if he saw a need.Ā  Rob had a way with words and made us all laugh!Ā  He was kindhearted with a gentle soul.Ā  Rob loved to fish, play golf and shoot pool.Ā  He was a very good at all three.Ā  He will certainly be missed at all our family get togethers.Ā  There will be a void that no one can ever fill. Memorial service will be Wednesday, November 13th at 1:30 pm at First Baptist Church, 13017 William Dodson Parkway, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234.Ā  (Family visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 before the service.) In lieu of flowers, if you would like, please make a donation to the American Heart Association or First Baptist Church of Farmers Branch. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
