Ha, Huuhanh Thi Nguyen
Huuhanh Thi Nguyen Ha of Carrollton, Texas passed away on Friday, May 1, 2020 at the age of 83.
Mum always wanted the best for her kids. She wanted us to work hard at school and succeed in life. We were sent to the best schools in Saigon, that Mum and Dad could afford, and received private tutoring, although they didn't have much. She loved cooking through out her life; the delicious meals she had ready for us to eat after coming home from the Saigon zoo every Sunday, the Choux a la creme and Birthday cakes she made with great care, the numerous family gathering meals she cooked over the years, and when we moved to France and couldn't afford to pay for lunch at school, she made us home-made burgers we could take to college for lunch, pretending we had McDonald's.
She went out of her way to make us happy - one of my clearest early memories was when she set up an enclosure in cardboard for me to play with my favorite toy car. She went to see me dancing at school and said she liked our show the best - even though I dropped the flag I was supposed to wave on stage! I still remember the birthdays she took time to organize for us with our friends when we were small children in primary school. Over the years, she knitted so many woolen jackets for us to wear on the cold days. She took care of us day in and day out while holding a full time job, and never missed a day even when she was ill.
She rarely wanted to openly show her feelings, but when I finished 1st at the entrance exam to the University in Vietnam, she couldn't hide how proud she was of me, and when my brother went to France, she often cried quietly because she missed him a lot.
With Dad, they escaped the communist regime and brought us to France to build a better life. We lost everything when leaving Vietnam, our house, our position in society, our language, our culture, but she never lost hope for our future and did everything she could to ensure we succeeded in our new life in a new land. Not only did she take care that my sister and I were settled in France, but as soon as she was able she then went to the US to ensure my brother had all he needed, and she worked hard in the family business to rebuild a good life in America.
We will forever be grateful of all the sacrifices Mum made for me, for us. You did a great job as our mother, Mum. We love you and miss you. Please have a forever joyful and happy rest in heaven. May peace be with you for eternity.
Funeral service will be on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at 10:00 am in the Brooks Family Chapel of the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234.Ā Interment will follow at Rolling Oaks Memorial Center, 400 Freeport Pkwy, Coppell, Texas 75019.
